To be fair, it's not that the guards magically know where you are all the time. It was more because they have creatures/NPCs in the game that are set so they can report crime as a witness even though they shouldn't be able to. A famous example of this are the chickens in Skyrim. So if you shouldn't have been caught and yet for some reason the guards came, that means somebody or something actually saw you and you just didn't realize it.

I can only imagine how many people remember Oblivion as a great game that defined their opinions on what a fantasy rpg should be like, and many others are just so fucking happy that it's the dumpster fire they always dreamed of.

I didn't have an Oblivion Remaster on my 2025 Bingo card. In December I went to my parents for the holidays and saw my old Oblivion map that came with my copy of Oblivion I got a few years after I lost my Day One copy of the game in a house fire. When I saw the map I went like "Huh I should play Oblivion again". Imagine my surprise when I saw the Remaster leaks that were released.

Morrowind was my first Elder Scrolls game (cause I'm old), so that will always have a special place in my heart. But I remember well that not only did my friends and I all play Oblivion when it came out but also that I spend hours in the creation kit that came with it to insert my own houses to put all my loot. It was a great time. So maybe I give the remaster a try. Seems like they nailed the assignment.

As someone whose in their 30s, Oblivion was one of the first real rpgs I played and preordered when it came out originally on console. I got morrowind as a birthday gift as well but Oblivion was where it really clicked for me. When Skyrim came out I somehow dodged it completely because I was in college and just never got around to play it til last year. OG oblivion will always have a special place in my heart and the remaster is just as fun as the og was for me and is letting my inner kid out again.

the argonians got a jim hensons "dinosaurs" makeover. oh dear.

There are no accidents. Only Happy accident.

Radiant AI sounds like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s A-Life System. Both make their respective games' worlds feel dynamic, alive, and less predictable. It's a shame that the latter franchise's latest installment's move to Unreal Engine 5 cost S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 the A-Life System. Now the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone doesn't feel the same. I don't fear for my life unless I'm at points of interest, because that's where other stalkers or mutants hang out exclusively. If I'm in the middle of nowhere, say, just an open field, I feel completely safe. And the Zone isn't supposed to be like that. It's supposed to feel like a place where you can get attacked anywhere and die at any time if you aren't being vigilant.

I guess games really were just built different during the 2000s.

A Rosie stream im blessed

Bro this was my first Elder Scrolls game back in 2006 I had just gotten my first desktop computer and it came in on 3 separate disks for installation. Seeing it in full unfiltered jank with a fresh coat of paint brings an actual tear to my eye. My buddy showed me his character while I was at work because I couldn't get it until later. I laughed I cried I shat myself. All I could respond with is "There is a god".

Like I've said since Starfield's launch ... the reason Starfield feels lifeless (in the cities, not the barren moons), is because they did not bring their Radiant AI into the game.
Right. So less jank, but then the NPCs have no schedules. They just stand around like cardboard cutouts. They don't speak to each other outside of canned lines ... it's like it isn't even a Bethesda game except for the loading screens.

I..... want to backseat this game so bad... The Scout Cat is so close to be formidable...

"Easy to copy a game from one engine and PASTE it into another"
Me as a programmer: 💀💀💀💀

An imperfection in the right place is a quality.

Yippee Rosie reaction day ❤

Act Man finally found out what every Elder Scrolls fan has been telling everyone, " That's not a bug, they are Part of the game".
