Charge Open AI and Anthropic executives with felony hacking under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 use RICO, and all these issues will be solved.  We have the laws.  We need one prosecutor to enforce the laws.

I have been saying this for 2 decades and for 2 decades it's always proven correct:  The absolute worst people you can ever ask whether a new tech is going to severely disrupt their industry are the people who are in that industry.

The higher Ed system is going to collapse, not because AI will let people get a comparable education, but because the number of high paying jobs that make paying exorbitant college tuition worth it are going to be absolutely miniscule.

IA makes students stupid. Check the research.

AI won't make college obsolete, because there will be domains which still require human intuition, creativity, validation.  In fields where AI transforms research and education, AI will just be a tool that allows more research, faster progress, better understanding.  With good public policy, it will make higher education accessible to more people.

College was already obsolete before the rise of LLMs.

You don't see it happening Scott because you are/were in Academia (in business I might add). Try being a teacher, social worker or nurse... I think you underestimate the momentum of the education system and those who work in it and the professional associations who create the scarcity to allow the current educational/professional complex to continue. It's the scarcity that has been the evil. It's the gatekeeping... Many people thought it was the knowledge that was the gate... but it's not... the privilege requires a fabricated gate... It's a bit counterintuitive because you would expect that everybody having access to the same information would level the playing field. But I think we'll see a period where the exact opposite is true... where it becomes quite clear that the information has always been available and that the role of the gatekeeper and class reproduction mechanism that is the education system will actually need to kick into high gear. Maybe we will just stop hearing that the people who become doctors are better, smarter people because they go to schools that control and assess that particular flow of information. Then we will see that it had nothing to do with the information they were learning and everything to do with making sure one's children has access to upward mobility without having to make too many coffees, clean too many toilets or wipe any old man bums....
