From a business perspective, the main flaw is that most tourists don't buy tickets for inside shows but are entertained by watching the outside lightshow for free.
I made a pancake that cost $2.4 billion the other morning. It was perfect. Then I tried a second one for $3.1 billion. Big disaster. My investors are pissed!
I'm a retired digital science center/planetarium director and content creator (essentially, the Sphere is a massively glorified digital planetarium), and largely, the entire field of digital spheres/hemispheres is "One Off". There are a bunch of low budget producers that build (mostly science) content that is converted to each dome, but to think there's an industry ready to produce fresh content week after week to cover $2+b plus operations is absurd. Most domes run at a loss, and are part of much larger facilities/agencies that adsorb the cost... Someone didn't even try to do their homework before building this thing.
I once paid $150 for a seat that was sold on the official website that didn’t exist. When I got there, I couldn’t find my seat even with the help of staff. They were just as confused as I was. I was later asked to email customer service and they never responded even after several emails and voicemails. Once I finally got a hold on someone, they placed me on hold as they consulted a manager and then offered me a $10 voucher to a future event. I said no thanks and let this matter go. For a city all about hospitality, this place was a major rip off.
