I had too much time on my hands and so I played five of the best dungeon crawl campaign board games made in recent years. I figured I might as well share my experience with these great board games with you. Many a healthy back was sacrificed for the making of this video. Thank you for talking me off the Evershade ledge.

I am currently OBSESSED with Earthborne Rangers. It has proven to be exactly what I am looking for in an LCG-type (not not really) game. I used to have a big collection of LOTR LCG, but didn't like making a variant deck for every single quest. I just want to build a deck and go. I love the exploration and progression in EBR, and how the world just happens around you. I am about halfway through the base campaign and have all expansions thrown in the mix - simply wonderful.

your review of Middara took me back to the 90s, i used to say the same thing to my mom about anime. damn those "not for kids" stickers

Ive beaten Ancient Chronicles about 7 times now and thats including Northwind Tales and now Abyssal Legends. Favorite game of all time, easily thousands of hours invested.

That inherent crunchiness is what makes it so excellent. The story is the backdrop, but the combat itself is the puzzle you need to solve, especially as new enemies routinely spawn in at randomized locations.

+1 for the gratuitous dig at Vantage. Love it!

110+ hours devoted to Earthborne Rangers and finally made it to the Legacy of the Ancestors expansion. It's absolutely insane and so interesting about how paths cards work and challenge you in ways the core box didn't.

17:56 bro! Ninja scrolls! Lol. That's an anime I had no right watching as a kid

"Hiking hippie simulator" LOL! - I always wondered what Earthborne Rangers was about - now I know in one apt description.

Evershade definitely seems like an "all hat, no cattle" sort of endeavor. I'm thankful that I came to my senses and backed out before I had $800 dumped into what's essentially a set of Zork books with a D&D Starter Box attached.

EBR is by far my most played solo game by time. I can lose hours in that world, always something new to do and find. Plus it beats most other games of its type for portability, setup, and table space. I've packed the game up in a cardboard deck box and brought it with me to play in the hotel on solo work trips.

ES BotSE ❤ Solo ❤️
I like playing 2 campaign games and alternating every month so I don’t get sick of it.

Middara is such an amazing game, and I think is really underappreciated. My absolute favorite Dungeon Crawler of all time.

Thanks, man, this was a brilliant watch 🙌🏼 I have to appreciate not only the play and review time, but how much time and planning went in to how beautiful this video looks from start to finish!
And one of the only adverts I haven’t wanted to skip immediately 😅👌🏼

Currently I'm an all-in BotSE explorer. Main thing that's kind of a pain in the booty is dealing with the enemy skills and understanding how they interact with the rest of the rules. It's def a pretty steep learning curve to really grasp all that's going on and remembering all of the moving parts once you're into sessions 2 and 3, but in my opinion it's very much worth the significant time and effort investment for this amazing game!

Played the first quest in Sword & Sorcery Immortal souls back in 2018 or so. It was a beast to get through. Now working my wall of shame (I had gone all in on that franchise when the expansions became available) and spent the last few weeks trying to get through the rulebook again knowing the payoff will be there! Glad to see it getting love almost ten years later.

I like the term component redundancy

I'm pretty confident that ES BotSE is my forever game. Playing it 2 handed and even true solo is so satisfying. I'm waiting on Lands of Evershade to ship to me in the second wave of fulfillment. I'm planning on LoE to be like an on-the-fly DnD session that my wife and I can play and progress when convenient for us. Nothing will ever fully replace a true TTRPG group experience but not needing to schedule to get some gameplay in is wonderful.
