Hotel Transylvania isn't about not letting your 118 year old go. It's about letting go of trauma, letting go of prejudices, not forcing your trauma and fears on your kids, and learning to get back out in the world after suffering a devastating loss. This isn't Mavis's story; it was Dracula's.

the best scene in this movie is when the wolf guy just devours an entire flock of sheep and the others are just sitting in the car with shocked faces

It’s so weird that Alex acts as if Dracula hates humans for no reason even though it’s made like a huge deal that a mob of humans killed Mavis’s mother so that’s why.

The fact that he glossed over the fact that Dracula fears humans because they killed his wife is bananas.

6:04 Yeah but in the defense of this movie and Tangled, the girl was isolated and gaslit into believing the outside world was dangerous. Only difference is Dracula was actually trying to protect his child and not keep her for his own selfish needs

I mean you kind of missed that a big reason he wanted to make a hotel for monsters is bc humans killed his wife / mavis's mom. So he wanted to keep his daughter safe

Still mad that they set-up a perfect sequel, with Maeve's mom being a ghost in the castle where she died, and then tossed that for the stupid Van Helsing storyline.

16:53 I disagree with the ending comments entirely cause Alex totally missed out on the Dracula character arch that he had to overcome his stubbornness and trauma and over protection of his daughter struggles and become support of her cause he truly loves her. This was moving to me. (Although I do think it would be nice for Mavis to understand and appreciate his dad a bit more that after all, she should know and openly acknowledges and understands her dad everything, good or bad, because all he wants is the best for his baby girl.

This film is basically a big budgeted Saturday Morning cartoon, and really that is why I love and never understood the dislike that many critics give it. Plus I just have to appreciate animated films that actually takes advantage of the fact that its animated with having the character move and act in over the top ways that wouldn't work in Live-Action and of course it makes fun visual humor.

I just noticed that the movie references the book Dracula. When drac says the castle has been human free since 1898. In Dracula Jonathan (a human) goes to Draculas castle and the book was released in 1897. it also could be a coincidence, but they also named the human in this movie Jonny/Jonathan which is kinda cool

Frank:you only zing once

Until hotel Transylvania 3

Dracula is a single dad because humans killed his wife.. that's why he isn't a big fan of humans.  Seems like a pretty good reason to me.

I'd thought you'd have more love for this as an animator. When this came out, I was already sick of the lack of exaggerated moves like we grew up getting in 2D. The extreme sight gags, the full-body expressions, the rubberband bodies, the complete disregard for reality in lighting and physics. "Ooh look how realistic we can make cgi character rigs!" Boring. This movie was a buffet to a starving person at the time.

Also weird saying Drac's accent was copying Gru. Sandler has always done weird accents. It's a major schtick of his, plus obvious for Dracula. Wasn't Gru just a Boris & Natasha ripoff? Alex might just be watching films too close to one another & connecting invisible dots based on favorites. Is it deep? No, no one expects a Sandler film to challenge us. But is it entertaining and eye-candy to watch? Absolutely.

I’m surprised you didn’t go over why Dracula hated humans in the first place, because his one true love was killed by humans who hated monsters.

That was a very deep touching moment between Johnny and Dracula

This movie is honestly a lot of fun. Since this was an Adam Sandler project, I expect there to be his usual cast there, and a bunch of dated jokes and references. And yes, there are some of those in the movie, but overall it’s still pretty grand.

I'm going to nerd out a little for no reason at all. If Mavis turns 118 years old in this movie, which is basically turning 18 for a human, that means vampires in this movie age at a rate 6.555555555 times less than humans. After some research on Count Dracula's age in this movie he is 537 years old which, if I am correct at the pace of their aging comparative to humans, dracula was 81.9 years old in human years, 63.9 human years old when Mavis was born, and 64.5 human years old when the hotel was built. His wife was 220 years old when Mavis was born (33.56 human years old), and died at 33.7 human years old.

"Actual things girls have said to me on dates" it's the peak of this video 🤣🤣🤣

14:00 With a movie that has Vampires, Werewolves, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, Big Foot, and other mythological monsters living in a hotel, this line is the most unrealistic part of the entire movie.

Aw man. He skipped past the Johnny and Dracula bonding scene. You know, the one where we find out that Dracula is keeping Mavis trapped in the hotel because of what humans did to her mom. Good times.

15:44- Damn, Alex, what kind of chicks were you attracting!? 😂
