I have this lens. It really is incredibly sharp and the bokeh is unbelievably smooth, but I mainly use over the 200-600 for its F2.8 aperture. That makes a huge difference with wildlife photography where high shutter speed is usually required and often the light is poor. I spent a while deciding between the 400 F2.8 and 600 F4 and decided the 400 is just more flexible and that wide f2.8 aperture is more important than extra reach. I can always add the 1.4x teleconverter for more reach and shoot 560mm at F4, but rarely do, as I can heavy crop the 400mm GM images if required with still pin sharp final result, particularly using the 50mp A1. So this was a big investment, but I have never regretted buying. It has truly raised my wildlife photography to the the next level not just in low ISO clean images, but with beautiful smooth bokeh no other lens can match.
A'lot these shots look like they are shot on a phone, with the blurred third of the image either side, that bare no relivance to the image. Qoute "Just look at the EYE of this GREAT Bald Eagle, So impressivle sharp" yeah but in your phone image, most of it's left wing has dissapeared ?
