I love the overarching joke of multilingual Abdullah.

The Captain was most likely "passive" until it was too late because of where he was. HAD he spoken up sooner and over-ruled the two pilots on the boat.... he KNEW that those 2 would head back to the Authority bad-mouthing him, and in any future trips through the canal the Authority would have likely put him at the BOTTOM of the list of authorized ships.

Don't forget that this IS Egypt, and the amount of corruption and "cover your own rear-end" going on in the offices of the Authority center is going to constantly make people who have a "rep" for being difficult to work with (such as over-ruling the pilots) would have some kind of "push back" from officials in the Authority center. Such as where you get listed in order of moving, who they send to work with you, possibly even being pushed aside for ships BEHIND YOU showing up giving the approval to go through first.

So, when you KNOW that if you are going to do your job and "over-rule" the people sent to you and you will be punished for it (on a professional and financial level), you kind of bite your tongue a bit longer than you should.

Definitely the pilots fault.

Yeah yeah, the captain is in charge of the ship, but the pilots were specifically assigned to the ship to get them through the canal. They know the canal, they know how to get through it, they gave conflicting instructions and stopped doing their job to bicker in a language that none of the actual crew spoke.

They also, apparently, has a very easy solution.
Just call in two tug-boats to offset the wind, and the problem would be solved.
But they didn't.

Two things about this whole situation:

(1) When the Suez Canal was dug, there were no ships nearly as BIG as the EVER GIVEN. I think that helped contribute to the problem.

(2) I remember when this happened, but I had not heard about that Egyptian Lady Captain. I am glad the whole thing did not turn into a bigger mess for her.

Fun Fact: Irresponsible handling of ballast water is believed to be part of why Lion fish are now in the Caribbean.

The thumbnail makes it look like Internet Historian is taking a selfie with ChaCha!

The "excavating from home" thing is no joke. Heavy equipment manufacturers have been experimenting with equipment that can be controlled entirely remotely. Now, it's still ideal to be on site in most circumstances, but with remote work requirements, thanks to COVID, and there being some applications where it might be too dangerous to have an operator in the cockpit, being able to operate them remotely can be an advantage.

First vtuber to bring up the inhumane aspect of Muhhamed Aisha's story, which I wanna believe is at least part of why he included it.

that captain being stuck on that ship shouldnt be legal. at that point it becomes an international problem. the guy is being held hostage and hes not even the owner. what about the mans family back home

This is why the Captain's orders in a ship are above anyone else's, especially during a stressful situation.
And this is why when someone steps in to help navigate in these canals, there must be a clear chain of command established.
In some places, like the Panama canal, the person who steps in has a higher authority than the Captain. However that is not the case in other canals.

Funny how when Camilla from FE fates appeared and ChaCha said "Literally me"
They both have a ton in common

funfact: they could have dredged the ship out of the sandbars if they didnt remove the sandbars with excavators, and instead used high pressure water pumps to hose all of the sand away with water from the canal itself. you'd be surprised by how much sand can be pushed away in a hurry with an extremely powerful waterjet.

The Evergreen memes that came out of this were peak😂

This was my favorite episode of Azure Lane ever!
I was sweating, crying, laughing, puking and gacha'ing the whole time!
And I didn't even get Bismark.

The investigation into Captain is all about who to point the finger at. Why you must always CYA (Cover Your A$$)

39:51 nah that's just standard procedure, the first thing they do is try to find the human blame so that no company has to take blame and also in case he was actually doing any of those they have to check before it leaves your system regardless of if they actually think he was under the influence or not

I love how people get so pulled in imediately they always miss the undeNILEably joke about it being the most famous water way in Eqypt at the very beginning.

40:00 - thats for liability rather than anything else. Its so the company can wipe their hands and go "nope we're not liable, the guy was clean, any problems ain't our fault and we dont have to pay for it."

BTW, even though that famous shot of the Great Sphinx looks really cool, if you see it from another angle (like overhead) you can see that the head is actually ridiculously small compared to the body. It really looks like some little kid's art project.

Happy to see you react to this one!😌🙂‍↕️

Also, I feel people always miss his “UndeNILEably” joke 🥲😭
