The Beatles’ Rubber Soul has a new Dolby Atmos mix for 2026, created by Giles Martin and Sam Okell. I listened through the new immersive mix on Blu-ray to find out how far it takes one of the Beatles’ defining albums into the room.

There are some genuinely satisfying moments here, particularly when background vocals, guitars and other overdubs are allowed to take up residence in the surrounds. But compared with the excellent new stereo remix, the Atmos presentation can also feel conservative, uneven and less immediately punchy.

In this review, I dig into the discreteness and use of the surrounds and heights, the standout tracks and spatial moments, the sound quality and bass on Blu-ray, how the mix compares with the earlier 2023 Atmos material, and whether Rubber Soul ultimately gets the immersive treatment it deserves.

The Blu-ray contains the full 2026 Rubber Soul mix in Dolby Atmos and high-resolution stereo, plus the 2023 Atmos and high-resolution stereo mixes of “Day Tripper” and “We Can Work It Out.”
