Last update: I completed the install today. Lots to note, firstly if you have an extended leather dash, you will need a surgical blade to to get through it. It’s very different to the plastic dashboards. Second: the metal clips on the housing are what keeps the housing in place. It will not fit flush without them. There are mounting points inside the dash where those clips push against. Do not cut them off!! I did and ended up zip tying the housing in 4 places to the frame. I suspect this is why Tommy used glue here as it wasn’t flush. If you have Bose audio you can disconnect the plug from the main harness and connect it to the jumper harness, works fine so no need to modify the original wiring harness. I used a Porsche Panamera clock with a 970 part number and it fits in a 981 CS.

Use sandpaper to clip the edges - when cutting the shape in the dash, try to keep the leather intact behind it, makes it easier to tuck in after.

There are tabs to align the top and bottom of the housing already inside the dash - you cannot misalign it thanks to it which is great.

This is very useful. I got to the coding part first and fitted the sport plus button and completed the coding successfully, now I just need to cut the dash....You mentioned it's a panamera clock but the link is to an amazon non-genuine clock. Do you have the part number of the clock handy by chance? Would be a massive help as Panameras are plentiful here. Thanks!

The hour hand is broken. 13:34 It fell from 12-ish right to the 6. The unit seems defective. That is probably the reason it was removed from the Panamera. 😥

Great video, as always, but I think you may have the wrong clock part number. From the back, your clock looks like it's from a Macan.

Compare the flange-to-face height. On the 981 Boxster/Cayman unit, the mounting tabs sit right under the bezel with minimal standoff because the clock is recessed flush into a thin section of the dash top. On the Macan/Cayenne unit, the tabs sit much further down the body, creating a much larger standoff because that clock mounts inside a raised pod that stands above the dash. Different mounting depth, so they won't seat correctly in each other's dashboards.

That's probably why it looks a bit off in the video. I compared still frames from this one against your original video from five years ago, and in that one the clock looked like a Cayman/Boxster unit, which is why it sat flush the way the factory part does.

The Cayman clock looked better, for some reason this one looks like there is a noticeable gap on the bottom. Not sure if it's the clock or the bracket

I tried this today, word of warning - this harness will not work if you have a bose sound system. The MOST cables are not there on the jumper harness so you will have to tap into the original wiring harness to get this to work.

Nice video and quality! I have a couple questions when you have a moment please. I was not aware the trim piece needed to be glued. Did you do that an an extra precaution or? Also, I would prefer an oem clock for mine. Can you tell me what other modek clocks would work for my 981? For example, 982, 987, 911, ect.

I'll be honest - I don't like it.  The glue residue makes it look sloppy (i know you must be eager to put out a video,  but first impressions matter) and the clock face is sticking out and also pointing upwards - doesn't look great.
