Bro just wanted an excuse for us to watch him play his Guitar with style 😅😅

You know what? I can only blame myself for watching a 10 minute ad for his class without realizing it was lol

As a guitarist AND filmmaker I loved the guitar/amp analogy

was so totally fucking bummed when you were like "the classes are on my website" but then you hit me with the "for free" and I was like the meme of the girl trying kombucha for the first time. thanks. excellent video.

Many comments about the guitar sound analogy being great, but I have to praise the guitar PLAYING. That's some pro-level guitar playing and musicality right there, a REAL musician (I can tell).

Came here for the color science. You did not have to flex your immaculate guitar skills so extensively, but damn I loved every second of it.

I like the guitar amp and color analogy - I use music reference analogies all the time. The basic concept is to capture what you want and then put it through the pipeline. But the actual difference is in the guitar and your fingers. Always take these kinds of analogies back to the actual source. The pick-ups are what is actually capturing the sound of the strings vibrating and then amplifying them through the amp process. This is the core of filmmaking as well. Although the camera is not the whole thing - it is the accuracy that the lens and the sensor is able to capture. But working back to the actual source - lighting and costume - makeup, and set design is what sets the stage, and has the largest contribution as to what you capture.
If you want to use an audio analogy - a singer's capture is the sound of their voice, then the room, and then the microphone placement and internal parts of the microphone.
And that is where the detail and ambience of the room is captured. In video it starts in the room - scene referred - meaning the lighting and everything in front of the sensor dictates what you have to work with.
Thanks for making us think about our processes.

Nice Strat  and Victory set up. Great analogy!

Your channel is the answer to my quest for film look. Thank you!

Amazing video. This really hammers home some things that i've been preaching for a while. "Cinematic" (i hate this word) doesn't mean a specific set of settings and principles that need to be applied to differenciate it from regular video. The key is "intent". You need to have a vision, and try to achieve this vision, and the closer you get that state, the further you will stray away from just a video and get closer to a piece of art. And while a lot of things that are being sold as "cinematic" are good principles, they are not the end all be all. Just like applying film emulation through post processing is a good approach to get your image to look a certain "film like" way, it is not the only way to make your video look professional and distinct. You can get results just as well by developing your own look.
Every part of the creation process that is curated will influence the end result positively. That's why there are dozens of different roles and jobs on a movie set, because if they leave out just one of the film making disciplines to the stars, the end result will look less intentional and as a result less "like a movie". Now obviously as a indie film maker you can't curate it all, so look at the things you have the most influence over and focus on those.

I am also a guitarist in a metal band. THIS ANALOGY IS FIRE.
The same dynamic range in sound has the same analogy in visual.

6:24 hey bro, I just wanna say I’m so fucking glad I stuck around because I read a comment about a guitar amp analogy, but what an amazing video dude
Props

I came across that same video awhile back lol, love it
