My father was a Pacific WW II Marine Corps veteran who was in the American Embassy Service from 1945 until he left the military in 1964.  We lived in London, and I was educated in English schools until I was age 15 when we moved back to the states.  I am a Westminster but am thoroughly impressed by this video and the ethos of Eton.

I attended private school in America as a kid, which was not “public” but required payment and acceptance…the “public” school title for schools in Britain that are in fact anything but available to the vast majority of the public remains confusing.

I went to an all-boys school. It was much better than the mixed school I had come from. The thing is boys are better taught differently from girls. We'd get to meet the girls from the all-girls school at the weekends.

The 'beak' was also a term used by the criminal fraternity to refer to a judge or magistrate.

I went to a school like Eton in 1960. It was tough!

I wonder what this delightful young student is doing now?  Great things ahead for him …

We used to have something not too dissimilar, except they were not boarding.  They were called 'Grammar Schools".

Harrow looks after old boys more than Eton

A boy from my local town Barnsley, South Yorkshire has gained a place at Eton College, the college must have a bursary system that admits boys who have passed all the necessary exams to obtain a place at the college  , he started in September so hopefully he will do well with his very privileged education so it seems Eton college does offer places to boys who’s parents are not wealthy providing they pass all the necessary exams which is very commendable .
