I'm 75. I will be getting one.

Ive had a speed 400 for 2 years, I did not like the bars, so I fitted chrome higher bars and if you use the revs this bike really moves down the road. I'm 79 and this bike is a lot of fun.

Nice bike Marshal. I like the Triumphs as well. The in city agility is important to me as i get older.

Really nice review. I hope it's not too tall for me.

Ha, I actually thought it was "Retiring with Marshall"

I've had my 2025 Speed 400 for almost a year. Absolutely fantastic bike. If you get it new, make sure you get it through the break in period then get its first service done. Also, make sure you adjust the rear suspension preload properly. Great bike for a great price.

At the start of this year I decided to downsize. I no longer need a bike that will do 150 mph. I test rode a 350 Honda a 350 Enfield a Triumph 400 and a 350 BSA Bantam. The Honda and the Enfield felt gutless the Triumph kept cutting out and the engine control light kept coming on. I bought  the Bantam, and it is perfect for the country roads and mountain passes that I ride.

Well, you didn't save my bacon! I mentioned getting this bike to my wife and my bacon went into the fire. Thanks!

The speed is really set up for just the road similar to my Tracker 400. The Tracker has sort of knobbly tyres but a gravel driveway is about it's limit. These two bikes are essentially the same with different jackets on. I enjoy the Tracker and got it for one of the points you mentioned. I have a garage full of sports/cafe/retro/cruiser bikes and all are fast. This time I wanted something small and buzzy, just like when I got my first bike.
I have had a blast on this summer doing 1000 miles in 2 weeks 'playing'. Ok in t he US 1000 miles is a shopping run but in the UK it means I experienced 12,000 different accents 😁.
Bars/seating is personal and manufacturers can't accommodate all. If they made bikes as you suggest I would need to modify them all for the over tank stance. Sit up and beg riding kills my lower back  while the over tank suits me just fine. I changed the bars on my z900rs to be lower and more forward.  Test rode the scrambler, speed, thruxton and tracker the first 2 being to me bolt upright. The tracker was the closest and to me the best looking of the bunch. The thruxton 400 was completely uncomfortable which I thought odd as I ride the thruxton 1200r often.
Being a 'cheap' bike I am not sure of how it will pan out in the long term. It may be expensive for parts and they might wear faster but I took the gamble and will find out I'm sure.

My Mrs has a Speed 400 and loves it, she’s 5ft 2”.

Looking at one of these as a commuter bike once I get out of the MSF classes

I just took the motorcycle safety course and am getting ready to purchase my first bike at 60! This is the front runner for my first purchase. This video was extremely informative. I'd love a follow-up with the few mods you are planning. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your help very helpful information been on the fence about this bike, returning older rider after many years don’t want something too heavy but fun with light occasional dirt roads but I’m a short rider I think this bike actually checks all the boxes, Thanks again.

I used to be 5 or 8mph over any speed limit on the interstate, now I my outlook  has changed and I am purposely 5 or 8 under, and the transformation garnered unexpected benefits in arriving relaxed. Not sure I'd want to spend most of the day on this one at 65 or 70mph, however.

That's my only objection to smaller bikes. Otherwise, this one would be what I buy. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

Top speed of mine is 150km/h, and I'm big and heavy.

It's not the difference between a Carby and EFI that gives it the power difference... it's the cooling method that allows it to produce more power, and stay at the correct temperature. Keep an eye on the bolts on the exhaust cover, they come undone. My Scrambler lost two bolts from the exhaust cover. the Indicators all fill up with moisture... every single one of the Triumph 400's on the planet are going to suffer this problem... they will replace them under warrantee, but the new ones will be filling up again in two weeks time (best solution is to swap to the Bullet style) and If you got the Scrambler, you would have discovered the front brake pads only last 10,000km before they are paper thin, and were never any good. but the cheapest sintered ones you can get are much better, and not even 1/3 worn after another 10,000km, and have much better feel. the gearing is the next thing on the list, It is WAY too short, it hits the rev limiter at 45km/h in 1st, and in 6th it will hit it at 140km/h. the speed has a 15 tooth front sprocket, the Scrambler has a 14 tooth (but it does have bigger tyres) they both need to go up a size on the front sprocket, luckily the Speed one goes straight into the scrambler, and there are aftermarket 16 tooth ones for the speed, there's also rear sprockets with 2 less teeth. The speedo over reads by 10%, which makes it easy to work out how fast it should be reading for a given speed I guess, just add 10%... 50 is 55, 100 is 110 etc. and something that is annoying that most people wouldn't think about... the Chain is above the exhaust... so when you lube the chain, it makes its way down to the exhaust and burns on it... that can be worrying when you smell it, but you get used to that! Fuel economy is (or was before the fuel supply got fecked up) getting 30km/L, so on 10L of Petrol, that's 300km, at which point it has 70km of range left, but the fuel light comes on with 120km of range left. But with the current Petrol supply, it's dropped down to 28km/L. Oh the horn... Mine decided to stop working, 3 times! It started working on its own the first time, the second the shop played with the adjuster screw and got it working again, and the 3rd... I brought a cheap Chinese one that hasn't given a problem in 6 months... the bike was only 4 months old when the factory horn died the 3rd time!

Got the Scrambler 400x and love it, put the 15 tooth front sprocket on and transforms the bike, been riding 60 yrs this year! from the uk. nice vid.

Will it handle a 6 hr road trip at 80mph on the interstate?

Got the speed 400 brand new as a 39 year old that just got his licence. It's been great first bike. Just enough power to not make me want to move up in a hurry. Speedo is a problem though. 50mph = 44mph on mine (tested with GPS).
