"We are not researching retroviral engineering!" (Unlocks retroviral engineering)

Probably the greatest achievement in SF microfiction writing within gaming industry.

Uploading this grand stuff in high quality with captions and no awful background music makes you a king of kings

This game went so hard; the writing was so good we don't get games like this so often anymore.

"People need heroes. They don’t need to know how he died clawing his eyes out, screaming for mercy. The real story would just hurt sales"

"YOU WAITED SO LONG TO HEED US, EARTHDEIRDRE,
ALMOST WE PRUNED YOU, AS WE MAY YET PRUNE YOUR BRANCHES."
- LADY DEIRDRE SKYE

One of the best games ever.
It really transports you to a plausible future, all tech based on actually existing ideas taken to their extreme conclusions. "Living" machines, self aware software, genetically enhanced therapies, mindless unthinking human-machine abominations, atomic-level material editing, intelligent nanomachines, the unraveling of the underlying equations beneath social, economic and probabilistic events, genetic manipulation applied to military ordnance, the creation of artificial singularities, psych power, materials that lack friction, teletransporting of matter on a molecular level...

The selection of existing quotes is brilliant and the original writing is excellent at letting you hint at the larger world that seems just behind them.

Firaxis caught true lightning in a bottle back in '99.

Stellaris desperately needs something like this

I've played Alpha Centauri as an older teenager and some of those literally shaped my life. I wish this game got proper remaster and mass following it deserves.

Whose arm do I need to break so this game becomes a tv show?

Thank you for making this! I used to always have to queue several videos when I’m on a nostalgia trip, but now I can just watch the compilation here🙂 Also love how high the cutscenes’ video qualities are.

This game is a core memory for me. So many memories.

In the manual, Brian Reynolds talks about sci-fi novels that inspired him. Much of it was directly inspired by Frank Herbert's and Bill Ransom's Pandora Sequence books, especially "The Jesus Incident", the second book. Humans are sent to the hostile planet Pandora orbiting Tau Ceti. There is a planetwide consciousness contained within kelp in the ocean.

I honestly think the worldbuilding in Alpha Centauri is much more interesting, but if you want to know where much of the inspiration of the game came from, it might be worth a read.

They actually have an Alpha Centauri novel (Maybe even more than one). I did a book report on it in elementary or middle school

Remaster! One can only hope

We. Must. Dissent.

"Divided not by nationality but ideology"..........please friaxis can we please have another Civ like this??

Also I think it would only work in the setting of Alpha Centauri how we leave Earth and settle on a different planet as well.

We admire You Zeta

If any game deserves a remake, it's this one. A lot of the game remains relevant.

Pour one out for Recon Rover Rick!  (1:15:39)
