"Why would anyone build a luxury hotel is Sheffield?"
Asking the real questions here.

"Hey gang, that Spider has grown too large for its own biology to support it. Let's watch it scrabble around pitifully while it dies a slow, painful death!"
"Errrr, why Doctor?"
"Because guns and white men are bad!"

"I'd rather stay at home, than be stuck inside a police box with this arsehole" - and that perfectly sums up the absolute mess they've made of Doctor Who.

When that Trump guy shot that spider to put it out of it's misery, my dad said. "Good! Finally someone with some sense!".

The previous incarnations of the Doctor convinced you that they were not of this world, Whittaker comes across as a lass from Yorkshire.

14:38
Fun fact: Jodie Whittaker has openly admitted to never watching any previous eras of the show before playing the character herself.

Imagine being so out of ideas for a show with literally infinite possibilities for creative storytelling that you unironically rip off Eight Legged Freaks.

I would like to point out that the guy who thought it would be a good idea to build a luxury hotel in Sheffield and put a toxic waste dump under it, and doesn't find new construction being covered in cobwebs disconcerting, is the most rational actor in this episode

"What happened to Doctor Who?"
The same thing that happened to Ghostbusters, Star Trek, Star Wars, and more: the people in charge assumed the pre-existing fans would be along for the ride no matter what, and that they were thus free not merely to ignore said fans but to actively attack them in pursuit of new audiences.

The results so far do not suggest that this is a particularly good strategy on either the business or creative fronts, but the lesson clearly has not yet penetrated the dense skulls of H. hollywoodus and its closely-related subspecies in the UK.

This doesn't even stack up against an average episode of Scooby Doo.

Remember, this is the same show where the Doctor tortured a family of energy beings for all eternity by locking them in a pit with chains of a dwarf star, throwing them into the core of a black hole, locking one in the concept of a mirror across the universe, and stretching one across all time and space in a scarecrow, never saying a word.

This was the same show with the Doctor discussing the concept of faith and human nature in literal hell as he is about to meet the conceptual embodiment of the Devil.

The same series where he has to make the decision of abandoning the future version of his companion, despite her self lucidity and consciousness, to save the one she knows which means failing a life.

And now we get orangemanbad: spider edition

"What happened to Doctor Who?"

Identity politics. And as always, it destroyed that which it attempted to assimilate.

When I first learned that the next Doctor would be a woman, I thought to myself "as long as it doesn't turn into some feminist woke crap, I'm okay with it."

And then it did.

The Doctor: Let's be humane and trap the spiders until they suffocate or starve.

Not Trump: shoots giant spider, killing it almost instantly

The Doctor: You monster.

Me: WTF Doctor, he's got the right idea!

She's even got the Karen haircut.

"The TARDIS is perfect."
"It will be once it has a kitchen."

"I'm socially awkward"

Cut to Matt Smith literally stopping a global alien invasion TWICE using just his words.

The doctor has never been socially awkward, that's not the point. They're awkward because they don't understand all of the tiny nuisances of human society, but they know how to communicate.

"I'm just socially awkward" oh my god I groaned

Captain Jack was bisexual but it blew right past a lot of people because he didn't say "hey I'm bisexual... did I mention that I'm bisexual... hi nice to meet you, Im bisexual"  He was just a great character everyone liked...
