I've met a lot of people in my life, organized events, and brought people together. Despite this, I find it surprisingly difficult to make acquaintances and friends these days.
A few years ago, I began to withdraw from many social activities. In doing so, I noticed something: many of my connections thrived primarily on my own initiative.
At the same time, I increasingly found myself wondering where I fit into some of these relationships—as a person, beyond my roles as a coach, consultant, or therapist.
Today, I'm still very interested in people. I often find spontaneous encounters incredibly enriching. However, I've also become more selective about friendships and often need time for myself after extended social interactions.
That's why I'm grappling with a very personal question:
Do I need more friendships and acquaintances again? Or has my understanding of what kind of connection suits my life simply changed?
I discuss this in this video.
How has your need for friendships changed over the course of your life? And how do you know: I really want to spend time with this person?
Today, I'm still very interested in people. For your information: This article is not a substitute for psychotherapy or personal counseling, nor for examination or diagnosis by licensed medical professionals.
