Welcome to Nosy Lava, an isolated island northwest of Madagascar, in the heart of the Mozambique Channel. A former colonial penal colony created in 1911, this prison island has officially closed its doors... but some inmates have never been released.
Forgotten by the administration, left to their own devices, forbidden to leave the island, these men still live in the ruins of the penal colony, sometimes for several decades. Some were convicted there for minor offenses... over 40 years ago.
The scariest thing? The prison no longer exists on the books. But the punishment continues.
