The Bose Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar system promises clearer dialogue, bigger Dolby Atmos sound, and fewer reasons to use subtitles. I tested the new bar, speakers, and subwoofer against Bose Smart Ultra, Sonos, Sony, and Samsung alternatives.

Any one here I need help, so I had the smart 900 ultra (bar and 700 sub) upgraded the bar got surround n have the 700 sub connected via aux. like a fool I forgot to unplug the sub when doing the dynamic IQ set up and I feel like my sub is no where near how punchy it was before. Unplugged reran the adapt and it still feels not that punchy!

Do you think because it’s via aux the bad is not as good as it would be with the new generations sub. Since technically it can link or talk to it??

Any1 else have this setup n think the same with the old gen sub viz aux??

3:27 damn you need to fire your electrician for that outlet job. Looks terrible, same as the one under your tv

@Nerdistmaximus 2 weeks ago

Would the sub be okay in an apartment or would it drive the downstairs neighbors crazy? Fantastic review. Subscribed!

How does it compare to the Nakamichi Dragon system with the 1 12 inch sub?

@aregee7121 1 month ago

Would very much like a great soundbar for dialogue but at this price, with no remote, why should you have so many connectivity problems.

@rockyrikoko 1 month ago

Thanks for the review! No remote is a deal breaker for me, it just introduces too many unnecessary problems

A subwoofer is a must.

Hello Andrew, thanks for the detailed review. It would be great if you are able to comapre the Bose with JBL bar 1000mk2 or 1300mk2 series. Needed expert opinion on it.

Andrew, I'm currently in the market for a new home theater system for my living room. I have a TCL QM7K 98inch that needs some audio love. I've been looking at the following systems: Sonos immersive, Bos Lifestyle, Nakamichi Shockwafe wireless/Dragon, and the Klipsch 300 system.

Which of these do you think would provide an immersive audio experience? This will be used purely for movie and TV watching, no music at all. I'm also open to an AVR system, but I want to keep it at a decent budget in line with the above systems.

A great alternative would be Focal Dome Flax 5.1. Sounded great both for movies and music. Reminded me of earlier Bose sound. Unfortunately the Bose Lifestyle Ultra should be avoided.

@PokeDad80 2 months ago

Just upgraded my entire setup and guess what? Still getting popping from the sub and crackling in the rear ultra speaker surrounds…

@cyberwoodoo9466 2 months ago

does it work offline ?

I wonder how the new Bose Lifestyle Ultra system compares to the newish JBL 1300X mk2. I hear that it has a certain WOW factor to its sound that the old 1300X didn’t quite have.

Or maybe, in all our obsession with realism, we literally managed to capture film and visual media in exactly like real life - like we are just eavesdropping on actors onscreen. Yeah it's realistic, it sounds like you're just at some table right next to the people acting in the movie, but... weren't they supposed to be entertaining you in the first place? Accommodating you, at the very least? They're not in real life - they're in a movie, a presentation, presenting to you. Too much suspension of disbelief, way too much already. It's not the technology, nor our physiology anymore; our taste basically just devolved into a spoiled brat.

Bose Lifestyle Ultra Review

I auditioned the full system(soundbar, surrounds, sub) today at a Bose store in Bangalore, India.
I was highly disappointed with the performance.
You might feel the system is great with those movie trailers with loud explosions and noises and bass boosted sound effects.
The system fell apart when I played some music on it.
The sound timbre itself is weird and muddy.
The highs had to be pushed to +10 to get any shine.
There was hardly any separation in sound elements.

The iconic Bose sound( earlier lifestyle series with jewel cube speakers) is completely lost and replaced by a muddied, unbalanced sound stage.

This system can perhaps be acceptable to watch movies but a complete disappointment if you want to experience music.

Given the price tag, this product is hard to be justified.
Price in India : $4100

THANKS ALWAYS BEING A TRUSTWORTHY SOURCE! I have appreciated your channel greatly for hi-fi equipment and followed your advice with KEF LS60s in my casita where I listen critically to music. I need a sound bar for dialog quality in a large, TV room with 12 foot ceilings, That is also open to the kitchen and dining room. For this specific need, I don't care about special effects, bass, explosions. This is all about understanding dialog. What do you think might be my best bet in light of all of this?

@Nightcore_all_night 2 months ago

Ofc it’s difficult with Sonos’s poor quality and really Matt low detail sound. No Bose came back from the dead with new owners. Sonos has been silent. Bose has always been the clearest for dialog and overal beat for clarity balance and warmth. Loudest. Most Powerfull most open and wide room filling. and most stylish better for music than actual bookshelves. Altho old Bose was better for music. Bass was fuller
