Not the first world final I went to (that was the previous one at Odsal in 85 and the Amsterdam final in 87) but the first one I remember vividly. Per and Reading were a real thorn in our sides that season. He saved the FIM's blushes as Shawn should really have been disqualified at IC final stage. It was a great final with a cracking atmosphere. Happy days!

I remember Bradford from analog satellite TV. Screen Sport was my favorite channel because it had speedway on it. I remember the track primarily for its distinctive two-colored barriers. This track was one of the few in the world to have such a large slopa, not only in the curves but also on the straight. I also remember that one of my favorite speedway riders, Erik Gundersen, suffered an injury there in 1989 that ended his career. I remember that famous Danish foursome: Hans Nielsen, Eric Gundersen, Tommy Knudsen, and Jan Osvald Pedersen. The 1990s were the golden age of speedway. Many Americans, later only Hancock and Hamill remained. And of course, I remember my compatriots Zenon Plech, Ryszard Dołomisiewicz, and our champion Tomek Gollob. I remember when the first foreign speedway rider to compete in the Polish league was Hans Nielsen with the Motor Lublin club. And of course, we can't forget about Tony Rickardsson, Jason Crump and Lee Adams and many others ;)

Difference between this and the 89 final is like night and day on a good track . Would be amazing to see this place open again

I watched from the infield one night at Ascot Park raceway in Gardena, Ca. as Shawn Moran came to our track to try it out. In practice, he made the mistake of trying to ride the cushion.  If we found ourselves out there, we never tried to hold a slide. It was too deep and heavy. I heard his motor wind down as he tried to hold a slide. Then the inevitable happened. He high sided in one of the worst crashes I've ever seen. He got up after a while......tough guy.

I was there. Great track. Tough meeting. Jonsson was imperious.

It's great 👍

Heat 16 as good as it gets. Still carnt rewatch the run off though!!!!!!!!!!!

My my opininion heat nr 16 and Shawn Moran,s attack was fantastic. Now speedway isn't so good as 30 years later. Hans Nielsen starter on Godden engin, and won 3 titles.

760

Wasn't Moran stripped of his silver medal later, because of a failed drugs test?

io c'ero

By all accounts speedway is too white and working class so that means it's not allowed so goodbye odsal stadium arena Essex  Wimbledon  hackney cos we don't fit the political correct quota
