In late December of 2003, a 32 year old man named Russel drove along scenic back roads on an island off the coast of Washington State, until he arrived at his destination, a house tucked way back in the woods. After driving down the property’s long driveway, Russel pulled into a parking spot and came to a stop. After turning off his car’s engine, Russel went to unbuckle himself, when he stopped. Because right in front of him, in the tree line, he saw a figure moving in the shadows. As Russel leaned forward and strained his eyes to see who it was, the figure suddenly emerged and began walking quickly toward Russel's car. At first Russel thought he knew who this person was, but as they got closer, he knew that he didn't. But before Russel could do anything about the situation he was in, the stranger from the forest had arrived right outside of Russel’s car door and had begun staring down at Russel through the glass. As they did this, Russel turned to look at them… and what he saw was so shocking he just froze in terror.

Everytime you say "based on that information, here's a recreation of what happened" It gets me excited as heck lol it's honestly a great transition from storytelling to revealing information after the entire story has been laid out.

A new episode just in time to save me from withdrawal symptoms caused by a lack of the strange, dark and mysterious delivered in story format.
Thank you Mr Ballen.

I like how "he had once called her fat" made that list of horrible attributes. I mean.. that's really what you tell the police?

I can't believe Brenna got away scot-free! I love how you make the crimes into more of a story instead of talking about just facts. It makes it so the victim has more of a voice.

That Grammarly plug was absolutely hilarious. You’re the only YouTuber I don’t ever skip through the sponsors because whatever ridiculous reasoning you’ve come with for purchasing the product or service is always worth hearing lol

Anything involving assistance to murder should most definitely have a higher max sentence than four years

Having lived in Washington my whole life i'm always surprised at how many of the Mr.Ballen pods/videos start with "Located in Washington State" .
Love the content, thanks for all that you do!

I checked a few other sites on this crime. Predictably, they all focused on the glamorous perps, treating Russell as a footnote to the story of his own murder. You're the only one I know who really tries to give a full picture of the victim, and I appreciate your approach very much.

I was talking about camping with my neighbours the other day. My male neighbour said 'I will never go camping'. When I asked him why he said 'have you ever listened to Mr Ballen???? Not a chance will I camp'. I have been listening to you for months and couldn't help laughing 😂.
