■ Macau, a city smaller than Jongno-gu in South Korea, boasts a staggering 14 casinos! Perhaps it's because it's a city that lives and dies by gambling? Every person and every building you see is connected to a casino. Located in the heart of Macau, this landmark casino hotel! True to its name, the hotel boasts a casino that contributes a quarter of Macau's total taxes, and is open 24/7. Koreans are a frequent sight. Some are tourists, but most are those who sit in one spot, engaged in marathon gaming, known as "papillons." Mr. Jeong, who came here seven years ago out of curiosity, won 15 million won in a single game and became addicted to gambling. His success has since been phenomenal, even reaching 1 billion won in a single game. But now, seven years later, he doesn't have a single plane ticket left to return to Korea. Meanwhile, the thriving pawnshops catering to Koreans in the city hint at the sheer number of Korean gambling gangs infiltrating Macau. Another factor that contributes to Macau's 24/7 liveliness is the prostitution of women. It's said that if a casino player is having trouble, finding a voluptuous woman will help them get back on track, making them a vital gateway for gamblers. As a result, women from Russia, China, and even Korea are now offering their services for as little as 70,000 won a night.
Meanwhile, Macau is experiencing a casino boom like never before, thanks to the opening of a new casino built with capital imported directly from Las Vegas. With over a thousand gaming machines and VIP rooms that allow single bets of 30 million won, it's a tempting prospect for gamblers yearning for a big payday. We delve into the glamorous casinos of the day and night, and the plight of Korean gamblers who, beyond, are reduced to street vagrants.
