Sidekick Simon was the best addition to the cast since Lynn. He is just the perfect awkward foil to Alan. And he has great banter, he really has

The subtle facial expressions and glances are what made this show so great imo. The details you'd miss if you were just listening to it.

I love how they had the fashion guy just roll along with it, rather than being aghast or snooty

The falling bits of rubbish caught up with his notes as he tried to salvage the situation had me in tears for some reason

Partridge going empathetically a bit camp during the clothes modelling is just perfect.

That first bit with Simon doing the tech really badly and Alan getting gently pissed off at him is prime Partridge. Sidekick Simon is so good

Alan to Simon: "Feel the fabric Simon. Then talk about it." "Decent", says Simon. "A decent bit of skirt", replies Alan. Then he realises how it came out. Subtle and genius comedy that works on so many levels.

Alan without Simon is like coffee without milk, he found a straight man he could be meaner to, and softer to, than Lynn. Quickly became more indispensable than Lynn.
