People! Today's episode is dedicated to Vyacheslav Ivankov, or more commonly known as Yaponchik. He was a brutal thief in law, known as the "king of the Russian mafia." His authority was unquestioned, and his power extended far beyond Russia's borders, reaching as far as the United States.
From a common street pickpocket, he rose to become one of the most important figures in the Russian criminal world. Even back in the Soviet era, he robbed, murdered, and rigged cars. He was chased, raided, but he never went down without a fight! He brutally dealt with anyone who stood in his way, even tearing their throats out with his own hands! He was respected by both the old-school thieves and the 1990s gangsters.
But why did Yaponchik decide to leave for the States? How did he achieve his authority, and what lengths was he willing to go for money? And most importantly, why was the godfather of the Russian mafia shot?
