I was living in Darwin before and after Tracy , but was in Sydney that Christmas . Was allowed back in around Easter 75 and could not believe the damage. One thing that really stood out though was the human spirit. All my friends there were like brothers in arms , they had been through hell together and had come out the other side alive . They all looked after each other and it makes me so proud to call Darwin home . 12:22

I have been through some rough weather, but I doubt the worst of it would even come close to cyclone Tracy. I have been through some trauma in my life but I doubt the worst day of it would come close to what those survivors went through. I salute each and every one of you for your bravery and your determination to get on with it afterwards. Well done to all of you and thank you for this remarkable interview.

Wonderful interview. Very powerful.

I was born in Darwin in 1962 we left in '64 and was supposed to return in 1973 but fortunately we were sent to Canberra instead as my father was in the Navy.I would have been 12 also. What a traumatic time for this family.Thank goodness they survived.

My dad was aged 22. The house he and family were in was the modern type, ground level on a concrete slab, tile roof, brick exterior and plaster board interior,   large sliding glass windows. One would think it would be strong, but it got completely destroyed. A miracle he and family survived, had no injuries The chaos in Darwin and the mass exodus by road and air afterwards would have been similar to the evacuation of Singapore before the Japanese advance in 1942 . Now, 50 years later, the sound of the standard emergency warning signal sends chills down his spine.

The Australian Spirit would have been present & in full force that fateful day. ✨🦅

Thank you for sharing your story. And respectfully, eternal thanks too all, for your admiral efforts in raising Darwin up in the aftermath of cyclone Tracy.
