Do you own a Leica or are you considering one? Lemme know your thoughts.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Useful. Much appreciated.

Great photos man, as always. The comparison to Hendrix's guitar is so true; it's the player (or shooter), not the tool. Also couldn't agree more about using what you've got now and shooting!

Super dope camera, man. I would love one eventually but I like your take on it and mature outlook. Super fun! I’ll have a Leica one day 😉

After getting the Q3 in 2023 I hardly used my A7R5 which is a beast but I just love using the Q3 till now for street photography during travels

Hi Pete,
thank you so much for your video and your clear advice on buying new gear when you don’t actually use it. Many people often compare the Leica Q to the Fuji X100, and I can say that I used to think the same way until I bought the Leica Q1 many years ago to go with my Fuji gear (back then, the X100F and X-Pro2). Today I’ve since upgraded to the X100VI, but my old Q is still around, and when I’m out and about, my little old Leica comes with me much more often than the newer, more modern X100VI. I like the Q as a “second camera” because it’s unobtrusive and just gets the job done. I like the 28mm-ish focal length (maybe a bit wider) and the look this camera produces.
Please keep making your great YouTube videos—I love your jazz content.
Cheers,
Ole

I know that you and I have discussed this but the Q3 28 really fits into my workflow I use it at events for the candid stuff and people are quite happy to jump in front of a small camera. It's also a great weekend camera where I can go and shoot some landscapes and just take one camera no tripod... and yes you can shoot a portrait with 28 mm yep you gonna need to get close.

I loved it so much I decided to get the 43 as well and no I'm not filthy rich I just work hard.

But I will say this the Q camera will frustrate people because it's not a run and gun camera and it does have some weaknesses but overall I absolutely love the Qs they are fantastic

I've shot some events recently and it's great for the green room.

It sure seems like this video is higher resolution or higher frame rate. It looks like I'm watching it in a theater! Back to point, I'd love a Leica Q3 but it's well outside of my budget!

Gear certainly matters....

I´m currently looking for an edc camera.
I prefer the design of the Fuji X100VI but the image quality of the Q3 is just too good.

I just bought my Leica Q3 about a month or two ago. It’s an amazing camera to carry around. I even like the ability to switch focal lengths from 28 to 35 to 50 to 75 in Camera. Yes the JPEG‘s are smaller but nowadays, if I need a big image I have software that can make the file big enough file for large prints.

In relation to finding the 'dream camera' it's so true that many (an me too 😅) may think that getting a new camera will 'improve the person's photography' . It's not different than a runner hoping to run a marathon faster because of getting new shiny and latest design running shoes 🏃Camera or shoes can inspire or motivate for more training but it's short lived motivation ;)

So far moving from Niko Zfc to Nikon ZF did not elevate  my photography skills that much. However, definitely full frame cameras are better to catch the light and looking at your photos I can see that Leica Q3's sensor can do this well. I equally like photos made by Nikon ZF, especially the  B&W photos (it has got a physical dial to instantly change it to B&W).

What I like about both Fujifilm X-T5 and the Leica Q3 is the tilted only screen and that both are fairly compact in comparison to ZF. It seems to me that most modern camera brands just ignores tilted only screen in compact cameras. Nikon doesn't have even one modern compact camera with tilted screen only (Z8 is not compact and Z50 is old). Canon completely ignore tilted screens and Sony sits on the fence trying to make 'all happy' 😅

What is your thought and practical experience with tilted v fully articulated (those that fully open on the side of the camera) screens? Maybe you can do a video about the pros and cons of the tilted v articulated screens?

I just bought the Q3. Best camera I have ever owned. Besides the incomparable build quality, it has the most intuitive user interface of anything else, so much so that you don’t need to read the instruction manual. And the Leica app is stellar, as compared to the almost useless Fuji and Canon apps. It’s the only camera that has both AF and real manual zone focusing (unless you use the Fuji XT with the 16 1.4). The lens and sensor are exquisite. It’s tiny and light, and I don’t have ham hock hands that require a giant grip. I can hold it like I did my Nikon FE2, with my left hand cradling the lens, as opposed to the one-hand shooting that experienced old-time photographers find as amusing as experienced marksmen and firearms experts find the sideways gangster-style pistol handling depicted in movies. I can now travel the world in comfort. After returning from Europe this summer, I’ve realized that my amazing Canon R3 with RF 28-70 f2 is not the optimum tool for travelers, street shooters, family chroniclers and general everything shooters. I’ll be selling the Canon, which I thought was going to be my last camera. I will never sell this one.
But I have a question…..Leica informs that the Q3 contains a non-removable button battery. What is that for? And if it eventually dies, will I have to send the camera back to Leica to install a new one?

Ricoh GRIII/IV will make you a better photographer. When set up to the way you shoot it just gets out of the way.

Just bought a Q3 a week ago, in large part due to your videos extolling its virtues. Glad I did. This is the best camera I have ever owned, and I've had a lot. I still will use my Canon R3 for sports/action involving my 10-year-old son and his sports activities. But for everything else, especially travel, the Q3 is the last camera I will own. I have yet to process my images and see them on my Mac screen, or print any of them.  What RAW image processor do you use/ recommend? I have an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription that includes Lightroom and Photoshop, and I just bought a perpetual license for DXO PhotoLab 10 and the NIK Collection because I love  printing black and white and want to try Silver Efex. Leica gave me a free trial for Capture One, which I will activate and check out. But a casual comparison of images from all three by an amateur who still doesn't really know these programs is no substitute for the experience of a pro who does photography for a living. What is your advice? I plan to print and display my photos, not just look at them on an iPad screen.

Agree with you. I had the 28 but moved to the 43. Which I massively prefer, although that would be close to your 50 set up

All the best

With the Jpegs,  are you able to tweak the settings in-camera like XT-5?

Spending $8k on a camera when your photography skills are mediocre at best isn't a "professional photographer" flex. It's silly conspicuous consumption.
I would put every photo in this video, with a few exceptions, in the "snapshot" folder. Those exceptions go in the "will never see the light of day" folder.
