What if you spend your entire life preparing to enjoy tomorrow… and tomorrow never comes? 💔
In this deeply personal video, I share the story of my beloved Uncle. One of the best men I have ever known. He worked incredibly hard, educated his children, provided for his family and spent years preparing for retirement.
He even rebuilt his home into a beautiful penthouse, ready for the life he planned to enjoy after work.
Sadly, he never got to live in it. Just two years after retirement, cancer took him.
His story taught me a lesson I will never forget: we must prepare for tomorrow, but we must also LIVE TODAY.
As Africans, particularly those of us in the diaspora, many of us have been conditioned to work, sacrifice, save, build houses, support family and postpone enjoyment until “one day.”
We tell ourselves: When the children finish university… when I pay off the mortgage… when I finish my house… when I retire… THEN I will enjoy my life.
But who promised us tomorrow?
This is not an invitation to become financially irresponsible. Save. Invest. Build. Prepare for retirement. But take the holiday too. Spend time with the people you love. Celebrate yourself. Look after your health. Create memories. Rest without guilt. Enjoy some of the money you have worked so hard to earn.
Especially as we get older, there comes a point when time becomes more precious than money.
My uncle built the penthouse but never got to sleep in it. His story reminds me every day:
Prepare for tomorrow but please, don’t forget to live today. ❤️
