thank you for the video i just got that ticking noise yesterday. i got 233 hrs on my x590 it happen when i was climbing up a steep hill thank you again for the video
Got my x590 apart (seat pan, gas tank, etc.). Removed old belt, installed new belt and wrestled with that arm and hydraulic space issue (real pain in the ass). Went to put transmission pulley back on.. JD dealer gave me the wrong belt. I an beyond pissed at rhem. I asked the guy atnthe counter if he wanted my unit serial #.. he said no.. I learned a valuable lesson. Never trust them to give you the right part.
Hello Robert, I just finished replacing my drive belt on my 590. It isn’t the easiest job to do, but your video had a lot of excellent information.Thank you for sharing your helpful tips with us.
Thanks for this video. I will be doing this belt change next weekend. I’m going to remove the rear assembly too so I can have a look and a good clean. Thanks for the vid. 👍🏻
Hey Robert, Thanks for the Great Video on changing drive belt. Your video showed me everything I needed to know. Have a 8 yr old x590 that has PTO clutch problems and as long as I'm changing belt i will be replacing clutch.
Thx Robert you are the only Youtuber that will show how to change the drive belt on a high end John Deere with hydraulics. I have a X584 with 370 hours but don't pull anything but a 17p dump trailer and a bagger system. I am just starting to notice that it's starting to be a little slow in forward and reverse but the belt looks okay but might be losing the height on the belt from age and wear. Your video helped me to change my belt in the near future. 10 out of 10 👍
Just did this on my X500. I removed the fender, gas tank and fan. Made everything a lot easier and I cleaned everything once before reinstall. I still had to drop the PTO because of a cross member.
Great video. I feel lucky. I got 485 hours out of my belt. About a two hour job once I saw the video. I would say with out the video it would have taken me twice as long. Get a spring puller and release spring from the rear before you even start.
Just changed my belt and both idler pulleys. Took 20 minutes start to finish. You do not have to remove seat pan or front PTO clutch. Just remove rear spring to release tension on the idler pulley bracket . This is a simple job that people make harder by removing things that don’t need removed.
Robert, thanks for your excellent video of this procedure. Unfortunately I was not able to get belt between the rock shaft hook and the hydraulic lines. I was able to reach up and pull down on the deck lift lever and push the hydraulic cylinder backwards just enough to gain clearance. I managed to squeeze it back with heel of hand, though a small pry bar may be easier. I also rotated the deck cutting height knob to gain some clearance as well.
Thanks for the video. have to do this on my X540, the plastic pulley bearing seized up and the pulley melted and I found it in my yard just before the belt started smoking and burned up. 20 year old machine and they don't even sell the replacement pulley anymore...
OEM John Deere Part Number: M151276
Fits John Deere: X500, X520, X530, X534, X540, X590, Tractor Multi-Terrain Series Listed the belt for all series, I hope that I can use your video to replace the belt on a JD X500. I will attempt to replace because you inspired me to try. Thanks for a superb instructionable video. Keep them coming!!
Thanks Robert, I changed the Drive belt on my X540 which is about the same as doing this and you don't have to remove the clutch so any one doing one on these models that saves another step
My drive belt did the very same thing. It had a chunk out of it. At about 200 hours. Wonder how many other belts have built in “ lose a chunk”. Ought to last longer. Not easy task to change.
How old is your 590? I own a 2012 model and just lost the belt. It didn’t break but stretched and became pinched between the fan and the pulley and now I cannot move the tractor. Tomorrow I think I will try to cut the belt and pull it out. It’s pinched in there pretty tight! How old is your machine?
