The pins are consumable parts. The shim and redrill was to confirm the correct length, and wasn't even the original complaint. 2 were later fabbed on the lathe, and went back to the customer wearing the new pins. Eventually had to fabricate most of the front end of the gas system also. Customer wanted an operational unit, and this one was wankered enough to make fabrication of parts necessary. In all of these videos, (and this one is 3 years old), there comes a point where the filming just has to stop.

Looks like a roll pin to me, Brownells have a ton of those in weird sizes if you ever need it.

What about welding on a small dab of metal on the tip of the firing pin and then refile down to spec

I'm getting good info fome your videos. I started out as a draftsman and after retiring went into clock repairing and also watch repair that includes miniature machining. I also like putting guns back in service. I've done a few by looking into the internet to see how the pieces are put together to see how they work first. I been using taking pictures of the macanishes and with clocks I use a marking code for each part to make sure I don't lose where they goʻ. I have two miniature lathes . So I make a new screw or part if necessary. That includes small gears, and pivots. So your working with calipers is nessessary .

Learn to read a dial caliper. Holy shit. This is machining. Not wood working.

Where the hell you get your hands on that?!  Lewis is such an awesome machine gun.

The Thomas Shelby special

12:50 - Why not use a spray can of Dykem?  Much faster, and time is money.

16:24 - I thought I learned from Novak that when you do stuff like this, you quench it, and then draw it in perhaps a 700F solder bath?  What am I missing here?  I've no doubt that Novak is correct, however, I remain, confounded.
...

11:25 - why a "bigger beater" ??  Because it changes the shape of the force impulse; it lowers the peak force and broadens out the impulse, enabling the delivery of more energy (which is the AREA under the force vs. time curve if you measured it) with less peak force.

As a mechanical engineer, I have all manner of instruments to both apply/measure calibrated impacts and record them.

I actually have a half dozen or so "calibrated hammers"  with LOAD CELLS afront.  Deal with it!

:D

Was about to comment why not use a washer to extend it out but u said u were going to do that

Awesome 😎

No 24 hour Lewis machine gun parts store?

👍hit the sharpy marker with a little air blast and it will spackle an area quickly.

I have made 2 new firing pins one for a ww2 walther p38 and one for an olympic 22lr. Bouth have been made from an bolt 8.8 grade (iso standard) i dont know if its the same for ansi. Its better to have a little softer material for a firing pin because if its to hard it will snap.

This is the gun that you will see "Storm-Troopers" from Star Wars caring around

gravaty is awsome otherwise you would have to doge everything you let go off and need a stair to retreive it if at all possible.

Dude that was so funny when you said "who gives a crap, I Just got to shoot a Lewis..."

😆

Put a shim behind the firing pin
