You can feel the heart wrenching ache in Eddie's voice at the end of the song.

8:00. Probably an unpopular take but as a Gen X rock fan who grew up in this era, I think we all collectively embraced the perfect imperfection of these live performances.  The fans connected with the emotions the songs illicit and the meaning and lessons and the story behind the song.  Modern pop music has been drained of any soul, most of the stories are pretty shallow and there are no live instrumentalists to give the music flair or originality.  As a result, that genre needs to rely on modern tools like autotune, etc because the songs are empty vessels.

He's using an acoustic bass and drums are an acoustic instrument. I think those are fair play for this.

Now now Mr Roo, its definitely an acoustic set, the guitars and bass are all hollow body acoustic not electric and drums are naturally an acoustic instrument there is a rig for mics and recording purposes but essentially how theyre playing would be the same as on a street busking or in a small room, all the electric guitar pedals and effects removed

Now, you're getting serious. Nobody could touch Pearl Jam back in the day. Eddie's voice was so full of emotion.

There’s something about Eddie Vedder…

"Classic Rock" ouch that hurt. When the stuff you grew up with is now considered classic.

I was a bike messenger in Seattle from '89 through much of the '90's. Having the opportunity to see Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and the entire grunge scene in all of the dive bars in Seattle at the time was something I'll never forget. Not a Pearl Jam anecdote but an example of the Seattle of the time, I recall making a delivery to Susan Silver's office and yelling for the person in the elevator to hold the door. By the time I realized I was in the elevator with Chris Cornell he looked at me and said that he sees me riding around town all the time and asked about being a messenger (as only one out of maybe 6 female bike messengers). The only thing going through my little fangirl brain was, "Chris Cornell knows who I am! Chris Cornell knows who I am!" I only ran into him one more time before he passed away but he still remembered my name. Really nice guy. If you ever want to know where "Black Hole Sun" is located, feel free to ask! 😉

The remarks about the singing during the early 90s and their talents. This guy, Eddie Vedder, is widely considered the third best singer of the time. What a great time to be a teenager.

To what Andy said early on about the vocal talents of singers then versus now, it’s funny. In the 90s when artists like Green Day and Nirvana were popular, I remarked that their singing voices in that era were nowhere close to the eras preceding it. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown to appreciate 90s more and despise current music and the lack of musicianship that goes into making it. Maybe I’m just becoming an old man yelling at the clouds. Regardless, I really hope the popularity of the reaction videos like you guys put out on YouTube goes to inspire young people to buck the trend and use their minds, their voices, and their instruments to create great music again.

He sang the wrong verse (when he shook his head) and it still sounds hauntingly beautiful.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Pearl Jam about 15 times over the years and they always put on an amazing concert. Eddie sounds as good now as ever.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I can so relate to comments in this video.  When you’re in your early twenties and going to clubs, you’re into dance music, typically of black origin, but as you get older you learn to appreciate the talent, musicality and live craftsmanship of these unbelievable artists, grunge or otherwise.

Vedder is the legend that never really made the mark on the world that his talent deserved.  I get emotional every time I watch this performance, his soul laid bare, incredible.

I saw Pearl Jam in the early 90s in Manhattan on New Year's eve... they were awesome! I'm 72 now (old hippie freak) and this Pearl Jam album is still one of the greatest albums in my lifetime.

Eddie had a cold when this was filmed..... Talent & discipline on display.    The heartbreak is so gut wrenching💖💖💖💖

Heck yeah, I totally get that connection between Pink Floyd and Pearl Jam. It's a feeling  an energy thing that it's very similar. I regularly have them on the same playlist, actually.

One of my favorite lines out of any song I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life….

I love Eddy Veder’s voice and those of the backup singers in Pearl Jam. You’re right Andy you can always spot them in a song, such a distinctive sound ❤

just an FYI since i am a gear head, Jeff Ament (bassist) used a Washburn AB20 acoustic-electric bass. its acoustic but just has monitor electronics to plug into amp. so it is a full acoustic music set.
