This is so common amongst expats right across SEA... from my limited understanding, to at least partially protect yourself, it would be before any build agreement begins, or a landed property purchase, to ensure you prepare a separate 'waterproof' property lease agreement. For example, a 30-year lease, and ideally, with the option for an additional 30-year lease upon expiration of the first 30-year lease period in the foreigner's name,  or a controlled entity only - all signed and notarised at the exact time of the property purchase, or the beginning of the build. This will ensure that if the marriage goes pear-shaped, at least the foreigner maintains control over the property by holding the lease - to either live there, with the option to sell your lease to retrieve the value of the remaining property lease period. or just follow the golden rule - never buy property and put it in someone else's name.

I m sorry for all who wrongly married a young gold digger.
Marriage a much younger age than you put you at risk of a high cost.
Please think & think !

What you have done is the meticulous attention you paid to building the house.  This is only  good on the  assumption that the marriage won't break. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
What most of the expats  failed to do the following is extonishing. There are always two available options to take before you start to build.
1... sign a loan agreement with the landowner or future owner of the house. This way you can recover your investment through legal means even if you are not a legal owner of the house. If the owner fails to pay up after legal judgement, you can take legal action to foreclose the property. You can then recover your investment through forced sale of the property.
2... if this is too time consuming, you can engage a demolition contractor to demolish the house secretly and quickly and leave that country fast.

Far too many greedy adverts.

On the picture looks like father and daughter who you want to blame

This is very much the same as a story about a man in Thailand.  This video footage is definetly not Vietnam.  I suspect this is AI written or someone posting the same story with different settings.

I would have  hired a company to boozed that house down to the ground, before she could move in it. I paid for the construction and I have a right to my construction materials.

Why are you telling a Vietnam story while walking in Bangkok, Thailand? They aren't the same place. So what's the big deal? In every country the woman always gets the house, even if the house was legally owned by both.

A GROWN MAN BEHAVING LIKE A KID

A story about Vietnam but video is from Bangkok Thailand.

Sorry about this. Don’t give up on life.

Please don’t CALL the Kind & Generous Gentleman an IDIOT cuz U maybe ONE too right?  Haha😂 Holland

why buy when you can rent?  I do not understand the mentality of needing to buy especially when you are old and retired.

I wish the expads could understand that 70 % of people are going after what the 30 % owns! An fbi agent told this to my friend.

He did no loose everthing under vietnam law and his wife is Vietnamese he is still entitled to 50 %

Don't try to invest in Land or property in Southeast Asia, even if your wife is loyal to you,  it didn't work in Southeast Asia, the ownership, the tax, the exchange rate and the law is not on the foreigner side.

I am a Vietnamese person.  It was so cruel for someone to take advantage of your kindness, and situation.  I pray that your pension can afford you the lifestyle you wanted.  Take care.

This video does not make any sense. How could someone be so meticulous with materials and construction yet, be so cavalier with ownership legalities? Fastidious people tend to be meticulous with everything, not in just one area. Again, this video makes no sense.

Make up story. It’s a fairy tale.
