I used to love this game cause back then, and even now, honestly, nothing else comes close. 1 Contested zones are still chaotic but nowhere near what it used to be, i remember platoons needing to organize strategy to flank and nuke, and go up against flight vehicles for dogfights, all while ground squads dealt with tanks, armored vehicles, and infiltrators simultaneously that 1 contested zone used to be 200 vs 200 vs 100 players and there used to be 5 other battles same size happening in the entire map now you be lucky to even see more than 5 aircraft and 5 tanks with 1 platoon. You are right on your points: it's not dead, and it's not thriving, and the stubborn, dedicated players are basically keeping it alive. Tencent having the IP means nothing to me because many underrated gems can't be replicated, and this PlanetSide 2 is unfortunately 1 of them.

After playing Wardogs i began to miss planetside 2

I remember in the glory days having to follow hundreds of people swarming a capture point just to be told that another front is losing and having to be transported/respawn immediately and add another 100+ soldiers to the frontlines for the sake of winning. Nothing in modern days can compare to the sheer carnage of dropping in the middle of a large tank battle mixed with aircraft by the dozens looking straight at you, just to be mowed down my MAX's when you and hundreds of others rush a single chokepoint. Truly a planet scale war that felt like a planet scale war at its peak. Everything you did had some impact on it all; from capturing the points, giving ammo, building a FOB, and reviving the guy that killed at least 200 people before he died, just to name a few.

Best moment I remember fully was being recruited to a massive secret push for an 'empty' point and seeing roughly 200 people rushing through a canyon with almost every vehicle and loadout, only to be pushed back and forth over the course of 4 hours when the enemy retaliated. We won, then they immediately went for another point right after.

It's hard for new players to get into the game. There are so many ways to die and the constant orbital strikes combined with crashes are so annoying.

For a 14 year old niche game it had a pretty good run. I played it so much to the point where I was really just grinding auraxium guns. None of my IRL friends played it or had PCs at the time so I didn’t see why I was playing anymore

Bringing back Koltyr for all players as a permanent alternative to the main continent was a good move.  There are times where I'm just really not feeling snow or swamp and the option is a nice reprieve.

i mained planet side on playstation for a while before i switched to pc years ago, the game lives with low pop, you'r just gonna have much harder squad based fights for bases and a lot of 12-20 on 12-20, i really had a lot of fun.

Wardogs brought me to this video. Too bad that PS2 made really bad decisions, decisions that made me finally leave. Changes and additions like reviving dead Mechs, then adding a freakin Death Cam to the game. Wasn't enough adding a dot on the map when someone killed you they had to copy paste the same death cam from BF4. That was the last straw.

CHINESE PLANETSIDE 3 WOULD BE IMMENSE

This weekend on Wainwright (EU) server there was a queue for three consecutive maps, I came back to the game from a break of 1+years, I still enjoy this game a lot. Started back in I think 2015-2016 ish? after seeing my brother play it. I do hope new updates will roll out, and fixes for crashes (especially the one when setting higher FOV than 74, or random crashes where you have to re-validate your files through the launcher to fix them) And also the Amerish bug where when a conglomerate nation reaches 100 points the alert doesn't show up and it's stuck until the next morning.

The 2 steam games with my most hours are Planetside 2 and New World😢 will play them both till the end. Literally no other games scratch the itch those games do for me

Thanks for the update. I manage to think of PS 2 from time to time and I was wondering the state of the game. Me and my buddy were chatting about the game War Dogs and it reminded me of PS 2, having large player counts, vehicles, and the zones you must control to win. Still doesn't come close to PS 2 in scope however.
