You know dude’s legit when there’s beer at every meal

Great vid and informative for the first tie visitor to Tokyo. Like to add some pointers for those who haven't been. Buy a 24/48/72 hour subway pass good for Toei and Metro lines. 72 hour pass can be purchased at either airport or any subway customer service center. 72 hour pass costs 1500 Yen or about 10 dollars. Time starts when you first use it, will save you a lot on train fare. Travel the subways for 72 hours at $10, that's a no brainer.

Buy some wet naps, get them at any cobini (Lawson's/7 Eleven/Family Mart Mart) or drug store. You'll see when you eat out what I mean by the Japanese napkins, some will provide a wet nap as well.

Carry a plastic bag for your trash as there are no trash cans, anywhere except inside cobini's and your hotel.

Prepare to walk about 15k to 25,000 steps a day and many stairs to and from the subway. If you can't do that, cabs are available but the price will add-up and you will lose out on the experience of walking in Japan, many interesting shops to see everywhere.

Don't expect big hotel rooms, they exist and are very pricey. One of my favorite hotel chains in Tokyo is Richmond Hotels. Rooms are typically larger and what you would get in the us. Even though they rate at a 3 star hotel, you will see many 4 star that should be 2 stars. Richmond Hotels is solid in my book.

Stay at a hotel near a subway station, as close as you can get especially in the summer months and dead of winter. You can duck out of the elements quickly, catch a train or just pop-up at a different exit in the area you are staying for some different sites. Don't stay at a hotel that says something like this, "subway 15 minute walk". That is a Japanese walk and will like take the normal American about 25 minutes. I and my family walk very fast so yes, it can take 15 minutes if you are in shape. Proximity to a subway station is paramount.

Prices are up due to the amount of tourism both food and hotels are more expensive, but still affordable. I've seen quite a difference in pricing in the last year. If you're on a budget, cheap good eats can be found at Japanese food chains like Yoshinoya, Matsuya, Tendon Tenya and even a convenance (cobini) store. Fruits are expensive, ex; 7-Eleven 10 grapes for about $10 US, but ow so good. You can also find good eats in the basement of department stores and subway stations. But you do need to splurge on one meal, Japanese A-5 wagyu beef. Find a reputable yaki-niku (grilled meats) establishment with high marks and try it, you will be very happy. Another cool eating experience is any sumo restaurant in Ryogoku. I've seen many sumo wrestlers walking or biking down the streets in this area over the years. These guys are freakishly big so they stand out. Also, no tipping necessary as Japan is not a tipping country. If you need help in a restaurant, don't wait for them to come to you, just say "Sumi Masen"  loudly, someone will answer you and be right over. Actually works in just about any establishment and means the same thing as "excuse me" so you can use it when you bump into someone or just to say sorry.

If you plan on going to a movie theater (Demon Slayer and the reason for the trip last weekend) and want to book online, use your hotels phone number because you have to have a Japanese phone number and need it for your confirmation at the theater so write it down. Your purchase will show-up in your email. Or you can just go to the theater if the show you want to watch is not packed. Unfortunately that just was not possible with Demon Slayer over the weekend. Every theater showing, everywhere, was just about sold out except those after 9pm. I was only there for 2 days, specifically for the Demon Slayer movie, and was too tired to go to a 9PM showing so we had to figure out how to book online.

Lastly, be respectful and I do mean respectful, not in the American way but far above what you normally would be. Japan is a country of considerate people so keep that in mind and it will go a long way. That in mind, walk and pass on the left, don't be loud on the subways and don't litter.
