This is one of the reason I barely play. I got a 9-5 and play on Sundays. I got 2 toddlers and a wife.

Are you guys just now figuring this out?? Bless your hearts 😂😂

Like it or hate it, this brother is telling the absolute truth.

Bro this was ON TIME!!!!!  Everybody in Tet World needs to hear this !!

Thanks for sharing I’m Robert Holland’s oldest daughter who sang with Doc for years and hearing stories helps me learn more about my father RIP little Robert

It took me years before I realized how gifted quartet musicians were. I realized the had the best drummers, organists, keyboardists, and guitarists.

For this exact reason I turned down alot of gigs to go on the road full time, im happy just playing for my local church every sunday , atleast i  can still have that family time and a peace of  mind with no hassles or worries. Great info guy. It is so exactly 💯.

Years ago, a lead guitar player (RIP), told me of his experience playing for semi-major group.  He stated he would leave on Friday when he got paid from his man job and come back home broke on Sunday from the road.  Having to pull money together to make sure everyone ate. He said his wife was like, you/we can't keep living like this.

Bruh, I went through that years ago with Larry Blackmon and Cameo. I was caught up in the hype  just like you. Larry was my childhood hero. Be careful who you put on a pedestal....it's idolatry. God save you. Keep grinding.....one love Wink

Your telling the truth.  We have been singing over 43 years. We love to sing and play the guitar. However, I have a wife and two daughters. I have a career of over 35 years , and have been blessed to retire in 2010. Went back to work and working on retirement number 2. I had no desire to live on the road. God bless you all.❤

I agree with you, but hindsight is always 20/20. That’s why musicians should make sure upfront what they are expecting vs assuming that things will be fair during the process in  a written contract. You can’t expect something that was never on the table in the beginning. Love the video!

When I was over a group back in the 90s, the main soloist and I always made sure our musicians got paid first. If we got shafted, we would pay out of our pocket and take the loss. We never had a problem keeping our singers and musicians with us. We were a regional group with some projects out and if we could do this on our level, it is ratched not to do it on a national level. Personally, decades later, if I don't get half my fee upfront, I don't even crank my car up.

Who pays for our gas, wear and tear, travel time, etc, etc on a regular job??

This is why you should never allow your Ministry to become your livelihood.

Day to day has never been, or ever will be dependent upon my Ministries...

Brah! All I gotta say is there is a blessing in taking care of the people that make your vision happen bro. I just talk to a friend of mine that plays quartet, and he said nobody gets paid but the lead singer, and they are out on the slab every weekend and I’m not exaggerating. But I feel like it’s their fault because it’s not a lot I’m gon take as a grown man with a family. I told him I would help out and show him how it all works, but I don’t think he
Wanted to because he didn’t want to make the lead singer mad. SMH!!!

I had a quartet group,me and my sisters.   I always made sure the musicians were paid first.  Whatever was left I would split it between my sisters and the manager.  You see,  GOD has already blessed me with a voice and if any had to go without being  PAID, its goung to be me. I need them they do not need me.  I agree with you.  You are Right.

This is why I left the group I was in , some places were so small no room to set up equipment, places I call a whole in the wall it just got too much I feel you brother

Speaking facts bro...I've been there & done that, so I feel your pain..I had to walk away too. This happens to so many musicians on a daily basis..

You are so right! When my daughter had to sing. We made sure we had  professional musicians with her. We always ask those guys how much they charge for the whole thing, food, gas , Hotel and all. We made sure they had their money before we leave home.   If they charge! $ 400 we had their money  5 musicians  that's $ 2000. We made sure we had. We gave them have before we left home. And the rest When they arrived, gave it to them before they even got out of their cars or one instrument plugged up. That's how did it. Because it was our responsibility to take care of them. But we got her money when she got there and everyone was happy!

Young brother. You are speaking the truth. This is the side nobody really talks about And you are right, there is no money in quartet. That's why I walked away from it.years ago,,And just play for a church now. I know some of the biggest names of singers lead singers, and musicians in quartet that have left here with little of nothing and people have to get a Go Fund  Me just to put them in the ground.
That's truly sad. Quartet, no money, no benefits, no 401k. And no medical insurance make it make sense. I love.
The culture I love the sound.
My phone is full of quartet music. But that is far as it go
