The Man Who Broke Jiu-Jitsu — Masahiko Kimura
Tatami Codex
33,014 views
Masahiko Kimura won fifteen years of judo matches without a single defeat. He broke
Hélio Gracie's arm in front of twenty thousand people and gave his name to the most
feared submission in martial arts history. Then Japan forgot he existed.
This is the story of the strongest judoka who ever lived — and how one night in a
wrestling ring destroyed everything he built.
From the misty hills of Kumamoto to the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, from the
emperor's pavilion to a hospital bed where he did push-ups weeks after lung surgery,
Kimura's life is not a triumph. It is a reckoning.
This documentary covers Kimura's three consecutive All-Japan Championships, his
legendary training under Tatsukuma Ushijima, the full account of the 1951 Gracie
fight — drawing on Kimura's own autobiography and Robert Drysdale's scholarship on
BJJ's Brazilian origins — his transition to professional wrestling, the infamous
Rikidozan shoot, and the long quiet decades that followed.

So long as a single a single person utilises Gyaku Ude Garami even as a set up(Renzoku) to Juji-Gatame or a sweep,
Kimura,
lives through us all.
-Kyuzo Mifune
-Masahiko Kimura
-Bruce Lee
-Masutatsu Oyama
-Ivan Gomes
-Miyamoto Musashi
all appeared to be invincible in their lifetimes
Vader, the Steiner Brothers and Co. would've loved it lol
Furthermore, his mentor, Tatsukuma Ushijima, is the person who served as the model for the undefeated judoka Ushiyama, who appears in Golden Kamuy.
