Dragonwilds feels like if you took people who have never played Runescape before but know of it, and asked them to to make a game about Runescape

Just want you to know, i had a customer come in today and his legal id was straight up Gary Gilbert.

I decided to turn my solo server into a public server and someone came and cleaned out my base

Im glad I’m still getting that RuneScape experience

Man, I fucked with that timeline so hard. That actually blew me away how much lore we could’ve experienced first hand.

My main problem with Dragonwilds is that food doesn't serve the same purpose in it as it does in Runescape proper. That's one of those odd, quirky things that I preferred from Runescape: The idea that you can't be killed because you horked down an entire inventory full of cakes and monkfish, and while I understand that this would likely mess with the difficulty of the game, I have a neat little counterpoint to that:

Make the food have a stack limit of like... 5, and have it take a while to consume just like everything else.

You have no idea how disappointed I was when I picked up my first "Healing potion". It screamed that Jagex was ignoring what makes Runescape so quirky in favor of doing the industry standard.

The thing about hunger and thirst mechanics is that they're not about eating and drinking, they're about the organic stories that happen when your hunger and thirst bars begin to zero out and the next 15-20-60 minutes of your play session are consumed by a frantic scramble to remedy that problem before everything goes tits up.

The problem with hunger and thirst mechanics that I've literally never actually had those stories materialize and keeping my character fed has universally been an asinine cocking chore with no payoff in any survival game I've played.

J1mmy, I AGREE! The first time I held Mithril on my hand I will never forget how powerful I felt. Getting access to Abby Whip while wearing bronze just doesn't hit the same...

Also Mithril is just so iconic in fantasy... a big opportunity loss, I am sure they will implement it. (hopefully)

Honestly, I think you hit the Nail on the head with this one Jim.

Seems like they did a decent job earning the runescape title with 1.0, id love to see an updated video

25:20 please jagex just take his amazing idea and run with it

Honestly they absolutely need to do a bronze to rune progression. Conan Exiles does a great job with its metallurgy. Bone and wood, to Iron, to Steel, to hardened steel to the iconic Star Metal. Then once they added the cthulian mythos aspects they added obsidian weapons. Runescape absolutely needs to do a bronze, iron, etc up to rune for mining/smithing. Then maybe they could add dragon as something you smith but you need actual dragon boss drops to make it.

You absolutely nailed the criticism for the game

100% some odd not runescape moments and they just gave us a throw away island instead of world they already have built over decades

In the alpha, they had a food system that was just like Valheim's - you ate 3 foods that boosted max HP/Stamina and gave varying effects. It was fun to level cooking, make new recipes and mix-and-match your bonuses.
I have NO IDEA why they changed it to a boring bar to fill up for hunger/"thirst". Huge disappointment.

I hadn’t heard of Dragonwilds until this video and I haven’t played Valheim, but I can tell you for sure that if this were a survival craft game TRULY set in the RS universe with familiar regions, combat and utility functions, or at least a similar armor and weapon progression- I’d for sure be playing it. Honestly just give me OSRS in this format of game and I’m in lol, especially if we can terraform and cheese

Thirst seems like it was supposed to be mana but they hadn't implemented it yet, so just did thirst

I had another thought about your idea:

First area: driving the goblins away across the river lum, and help build a fort there that would be known as the lumbridge castle in the modern rs universe
and maybe in the late game, we have a quest, far away in the world, where we meet the seven priestly warriors, and help them bless the river salve to prevent the vampyre invasion from morytania
while we go in there and kill whatever boss we need
since that canonically happened in the 4th age

Where is your dragonwilds playthrough with the boys??!

the food mechanic in valheim is fundamentally different than other survival craft games, because the food is part of your stats build over time. it makes every other eating mechanic in survival games feel bad to me

Part Two hits.  When I saw news of Dragonwilds my first thought was, "I ain't buyin' this unless it feels like a true Runescape IP."  While there are cameos and hints, I'm not yet convinced.  I'm also not a fan of early access from well established studios, but I digress.  Hopefully soon  I'll be changing my tune, we'll see.
