Same 1998 trawler, twice. One in Charlevoix, Michigan asking a hundred and forty-five thousand. Her identical sister in Fort Myers, Florida asking a hundred and fifteen. Thirty thousand dollars of difference and not one inch of it is in the fiberglass. The broker up north will tell you it is because his boat is a freshwater boat, and he is partly right and partly selling.

So I broke the gap into the four things that actually make it. What salt genuinely attacks, and what it leaves alone. The season and the sun, which I think do more of the work than the salt does. The named storm deductible on the map. And the honest cost of a northern winter, which somebody has been paying every October for twenty-eight years. Then I run the real transport math on moving one of them fifteen hundred miles and tell you which boat I would buy with my own money.

In this video:
What salt water actually corrodes on a trawler, and what it never touches
Why sun and hours may matter more than salt on a boat this age
Named storm deductibles by county and what they cost out of pocket
What a Great Lakes winter really costs per foot, every single year
Real transport numbers for moving a 40 footer, truck versus own bottom
