I met Bob Murphy in the late 60s, when he came to my Hr. High School in Gainesville Florida and taught the phys Ed class the basics of golf.

I played golf at UK. We went to UF in spring 1966. Murph has just won US AM. I played #6 on UK , Murph #1 he was late to get there so I got matched to play him. He showed up in a loud colored shirt, shorts, straw hat. I won first hole. I should have shook hands and said let’s go get a beer. He intimidated me the rest of holes. JS ‘66

Followed Murph, Arnie and Knudsen at the Canadian. On their first hole, Glen Abbey’s 10th, Murph put his approach on the wrong part of the kidney-shaped green. He took out his wedge intending to pitch across the bunker to the pin but hit a terrible shot bellying the ball into the bunker. He didn’t need to change clubs, hit his shot into the hole. The crowd went crazy. Arnie was lining up his putt and the crowd quieted when Murph said, “Well, on it regulation, no putts, par!” Again the crowd as well as Arnie and Knudsen were laughing and Arnie had to line up his putt again.

Very inspiring story I had never heard before, I watched Bob Murphy play golf at the Buick Open many times and listened to his voice on the PGA telecasts! The little tidbit about beating Greg Norman is very telling about him with the current situation between the PGA and LIV golf!

I had the pleasure of taking a couple of lessons with Conrad Rehling. Great man.

MURPH WAS A PLAYER PERIOD!!!

Never heard of this guy. Great video!

he’s a great player ❤

There's one in every club!

Murph the Surf

Bryson needs to copy Murph's swing.

Never count out the underdog!

The little girl said,

" You laugh at me, because I'm different,

I laugh at you, because your all alike. "

Stand out from the crowd!

Murphy was seriously overweight,  but was a good athlete.   His swing was very, very slow going back, with a long pause at the top.  He played against two giants in the game.  Arnold Palmer,  and fat Jack Nicklaus.   Palmer was always the fan favorite and loved by billions of fans.

Same disease Mickelson has…..
