Day 1 of my Delhi to Leh road trip — 500KM from Katra to Kargil via Sri Nagar and Zoji La Pass in a thunderstorm!

This is Episode 1 of my Delhi-Leh series, and it was the wildest start I could imagine.I started early from Katra, stopped at Dal Lake in Srinagar for lunch and photos, then pushed towards Zoji La Pass as the weather turned.

Thunderstorm, low visibility, slippery mountain roads — and I finally rolled into Kargil at 10 PM at night after almost 500 kms through the mountains on Day 1.

Driving through these vast landscapes requires patience and preparation, especially when the weather turns against you. I finally reached Kargil after a long day of navigating steep inclines and navigating heavy traffic. The goal of this series is to provide an honest look at what it takes to complete the Delhi to Leh road trip from the driver's perspective.
