Interesting video. I have always been a fan of the jet... I saw something on YT earlier this week that proclaimed the jet boat is dead.. for several reasons. I also wonder about a manf'r raising prices into an inflationary storm. Very risky. If it fails, it brings down all their customers in the form of devalued property. I am happy to see the full transom seating get expanded. It wasn't that long ago that one had to purchase the top of the line 242 (then) to get a transom with seat and back cushioning... So is this new helm going to just bring them up to market speed with the joysticks that have been out for over 10 years? Yamaha had a joystick, but used it to operate their instruments while the rest of the boating world was using it to dock or sky-anchor. I was an employee with SeaStar when they released their Optimus joystick system, and saw the revolution from close-up. Yamaha was using SeaStar sticks for their OB apps, but the jetboats got a synchronous helm control philosophy. Was baffling to me then... Good video, though. Be interested in seeing what you think about the direction of the entire rec boating market this year... And what November may do to it... Thanks!
This is a Good Video; however, many of the Photos just don’t match up with what the guy that is speaking in this Video, is referring to and previous Yamaha owners will see this right away. He is showing Larger Yamaha Boats and referring to them as Smaller ones. Again, anyone that is a current Yamaha owner will see this error.
Yamaha's biggest problem is their engineering department that can't design anything right. The hulls seem pretty good, but their jet boat engines are not built as well as their outboards, nor their motorcycle engines. I haven't had the 'pleasure' of working on their newer offerings, but I've worked on their 2-strokes and older 4-strokes, and they suck!
The smallest boat Yamaha made was the Exciter, and the 270 versions had 270 HP in a 1500 pound hull. That 182 has some nice features, but there's now way it can keep up with a 30 year old Exciter.
Let's not forget the problems with electronics and parts availability. Yamaha currently offers 30 different models! They can't stock parts for everything, so the part you need is typically on backorder. That is, if you can get it at all! If your boat is over about 5 years old, the electronic display won't be around much longer and you won't be able to get a replacement. Just think, you can finance through Yamaha and be paying on a boat for 15 years that you haven't been able to use for years and the warranty expired after only 5 years. What a deal!
Can't wait to see all the problems they're going to have with that wireless control system! And will the new WaveBlaster be made of the Nanoxcel material? The video doesn't really say. You don't want anything made of Nanoxcel! It will start cracking in months and repair is not like typical fiberglass work.
