Have you tried an electric yarn winder before? What did you think?

Thank you for sharing your experience with the winder. I have not used one, but might consider it, if I need another. 😊

I just bought this same model only because my old one was not working. Before it arrived, I fixed the old one. I tried the new one and will be sending it back. I had the same issues described here….center pull can’t be found (this is the main reason I wind). I finally got a decent center pull after taping the original end to the bottom of the spindle, but in the meantime I was getting the secondary ball at the top over the main cake which turns into a tangled barfy mess. Lastly, the entire ball went flying across the room when a slight tug from a knot on the last little bit caused the whole thing to come off.  It took three times and an hour long detangling of the barf to get a decent cake with a center pull. This model has just too many problems! I will continue to use my old one until it breaks or a new model comes out that works better.

Thank you for your honest review. It looks like a decent device. Seems both electric and hand crank have their place.

Probably if you put a little piece of tape, you might be able to feel the starting end.  LOL you had the same idea as I did.

Thank you for the demos. I don’t know; to me it looks like the most efficient yarn winder hasn’t been produced yet. I’ve never had one, but would like to. It’s just that I’m not truly impressed with any of them out there. I’ve heard the most positive comments about the Stanwood brand.
Thank you for your video. 👍

I have the knit picks winder and hate the fact that yarn flys off of it.  Especially if it’s a worsted weight or heavier.   I think I’ll keep it though for fingering weight yarn as I have a wooden swift also.   But I am interested in trying this electric winder for other yarn.  Thank you for this video, it was helpful.

Do you think it would help if you left a longer tail at the beginning so that it wouldn’t get caught up into the middle of the cake?

I wonder if putting a piece of tape on the end would make it easier to find the end and then pull the center pull.

Can you tell us how much it cost?
