As a British Muslim revert, I want to explore more of the UK and show the side of Britain that many Muslims might not have experienced. From finding halal food at popular attractions to discovering Muslim-friendly places to visit, I want to show that you can enjoy life in the UK while keeping your faith at the centre of everything you do.
We headed to Nottingham’s famous Goose Fair, where our main mission was to find delicious halal food. But before the food hunt began, we explored the fairground rides and talked about the experience of visiting these kinds of events as Muslims.
My wife is scared of the more adventurous rides, especially the ones with huge drops, so I was hoping she would face her fears! We’re not exactly thrill-seekers, but we decided to give the rides a chance and see what the day had in store for us.
🎡 FINDING HALAL FOOD IN THE UK
One thing that genuinely surprised me was the variety of halal food available. As Muslims, finding halal options when visiting events, festivals and attractions can sometimes be difficult, so I was really happy to see so many choices.
Our halal food hunt started with a cheeseburger for £7, which I thought was pretty reasonable for a busy event. But the real highlight came when we discovered a small Thai food truck serving chicken Pad Thai.
I wasn’t expecting much, but the food was absolutely incredible! It was packed with flavour and genuinely one of the best Thai dishes I’ve ever tried. It just goes to show that sometimes the best food comes from the smallest, most unexpected places.
We also tried some Mexican tacos that unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations. I had been looking forward to them the most, but they were a massive disappointment. Thankfully, we finished our food adventure with freshly made doughnuts!
If you’re searching for halal food in the UK, halal street food, halal burgers, or places where Muslims can enjoy eating out, this video gives you a glimpse of the options you can discover at popular British events.
☪️ CAN MUSLIMS ENJOY BRITISH EVENTS?
Throughout the day, I spoke about how much easier it can feel to find halal food at popular attractions across Britain. I compared our experience to Winter Wonderland in London, another place where Muslims can enjoy the atmosphere, explore the attractions and look for halal food.
I also encountered a friendly man who invited us to play one of the fairground games. I decided not to take part because I have concerns about games involving payment for a chance to win prizes and whether they are permissible in Islam. I believe it’s important to think about our choices as Muslims, even when we’re simply out enjoying ourselves.
We eventually jumped on the dodgems, and it turned into one of the funniest moments of the day! We were crashing into each other, laughing and having a great time, although I did feel a little bad when I realised how many children were riding alongside us.
Another lovely moment was meeting one of our subscribers, a Pakistani brother who also has a Moroccan wife. It was great connecting with another Muslim couple, and my wife was happy to make a new friend!
