That appraiser is an absolute boss in his field.

To put some context on theses items, I was buying a house in 1991 it was a two bedroom house and it was £22000 pounds. So what a collection.

It was my ancestor who hid the king in the royal oak at Boscobel. He was Father John Hudleston!!!

The excitement of the expert is palpable!

The wife was an absolute gem. Worked hard all her life to support the children and when she finally found a little financial security, she used some of it to help others on missions.

I don’t feel passions take over lives, rather obsessions do. I’m happy their mum could travel and have these wonderful adventures

Fabulous collection. Wasn't the program so much better and spontaneous then? Not staged and orchestrated like it is now-god, you've got to  apply to get on now and the experts have a lot of the research done for them! The expert here was like a kid in a candy shop, instantly identifying the makers mark and date. Great stuff. 😍

I remember watching the original Antiques Roadshow that the clip is taken from. I was gobsmacked. It must be the most beautiful and comprehensive silver collection outside of a museum in Europe. While appreciating the dedication of the collector, it must be said that to leave his family in such poverty was monstrous. His wife was so dignified at the end. I'm so glad she lived to fulfil her dreams.

This is my favourite of any valuation I have seen on AR.

I remember watching this, such an amazing find for the family.
My kids are going to be disappointed, I have a collection of over 17000 fishing hooks. 😊 🇬🇧

The joy - I recall the original episode it was riveting
So sad how they suffered in his lifetime to collect these treasures.
My heart sang for his lovely wife who was so gracious

This is one of the best appraisals ive ever watched. Every item gets an "oooh", and its exceptional, but then the next is even better.

I remember that show like it was yesterday. The most memorable was Ian's astonishment.

A James the first wine taster from 1607 - what an amazing object.

I bet that expert had the best day of his life

It is so good to see the enthusiasm of the valuer - he really is gobsmacked.

I think the daughter was quite resentful, that the family had been kept short to finance these secret  acquisitions.

The 1607 wine taster is just beautiful. Sensational English craftsmanship.

this was filmed in 1993, broadcast in Feb 1994

The deceased collector's wife had a great attitude.  I may have had to struggle but I am not going to let it spoil my life from this time forward.  For the children harder in some ways to see this needn't have been.  Father was a probate clerk - did that give him an insight into people who might have silver to sell?  As was said he had a very good eye
