Thank you for recording. At least many years later when our memories become hazy. We can watch again and again. Many memories, especially when it was opened in the 80s, I was a student and always go for solo walks there. Thanks for the memories , Marina Square!🎉❤
its funny cause marina square is still jam packed every weekend despite being one of the most boring malls because of its location........i have seen marina square in the late 90s and 2000s as a millennial but it was a completely different place back then.....it had a beautiful circular floral brown tile floor patterns and those mini pools along the walk ways and the centerpiece was this beautiful fountain with a giant chandelier......it had this glitzy cozy christmassy luxury mall feeling of the 90s......and there were circular stairwells everywhere.....whoever designed it back then had remarkable aesthetics and beautiful sense of art.
and then another mall operator took it over and turn it into this white sterile boring cliche modern shopping mall look everywhere.
i really like the malls and building designs of the 1900s....back then they did alot of weird bizzare yet weirdly imaginative looks and concepts.....back then people werent afraid to experiment with things and meanings on a deeper level......
There used to be a cinema and bowling alley near each other. And I miss the big wide steps facing Espanade, we used to sit and chill and chat a lot as teenagers. Then it became my work place for a long long time. From teenage to adulthood & parenthood, thank you Marina Square ❤
during my teenage time me and my friends used to hangs out at marina square the stairs over night waiting for the first bus go home . we called it" thaw" night
Thank u for recording this. This reminds me of hanging around there during 1990s. Shopped at Metro and John Little. Sad to know it will be demolish soon.
My fondest memories of Marina Sq was during the 80s where every saturday there will always be gang fights until see blood.... sure gonna miss those days such exciting times!
There is one nice restaurant - Kai Garden Marina Square. My favourite restaurant. Marina Square is closed for redevelopment by Singapore Land. To be completed by 2030 (hotel, service apartment, office, shopping mall).
I will always remember this place my dad drive us here every weekend if we have time of course, he will park at Marina Sq and then we walk over to Millenia Walk to do car spotting, and my parents will chill at the Starbucks that they have there, and then after I'm done car spotting we'll then head over to the Vegetarian stall that you can see in the video on the right side of the screen at around 4:28 we call it "One Man Show" since there's only one man managing the entire stall, then we go home after, and I am stoked to see what the new re-developed Marina Square would look like.
Internet and smartphones killed the mall. Back when i was a kid, there are no smart phones or internet and the mall was busting. The 1st sign of decline was the opening of the underground link mall, people no longer walks on the surface past the Criket Club and towards the bay... then a few years after citylink opened, Marina Square started to die a slow death.
I missed the Carona Chicken outlet especially the curry chicken!!! I frequent a KTV there, Seoul Garden and GV movies there...oh there was a bowling facility too. I remembered there was a Jacks Place and Ministry of Food and a cheap porridge buffet there. there was a luxurious seafood buffet too Brasserie something. there used to be a Swensen at the 7 eleven there haha but most importantly, i love to rest at the steps there outside!!! I last visited when Simba had a promotion for customers in July 26!!!
I used to go marina square for my facial appointments more than 2 decades ago cos they moved there a period of time. I remembered vividly I crossed over to carrefour at suntec city to grab groceries after before heading home to tampines. Fond memories ❤❤ thank you for showing this to a singaporean overseas. Its like a little walk down memory lane despite how it has changed looking at the video..kinda sad. No more places i used to remember. Will catch ur other videos I just sub! 🎉😊
I like staying at the Park Royal Collection Marina Bay which is next door to this mall. From the hotel there is a direct entry into this mall and I have spent plenty of time shopping and dining in this wonderful grand old lady of malls in Singapore. I will miss it when it's gone
Remember eating duck rice at the roof top food court in the 90s and staying at the Pan Pacific hotel next door connected to the mall. The food court seem to be located indoor now over-looking Marina Bay Sands.
