Strangely enough when you re-watch this show 40 years later, you realize that there is just a very thin line between so-called "allure" and "tackiness". I suppose being a supermodel is all about selling a dream to the escapist.
I can't believe Beverly Peele was only 13 when she started. Far too young and vulnerable to be in a shark filled industry with sooo many Predators like John Casablancas, and many others who were s*ually exploiting those young models.
Wow- Cindy’s schedule was crazy back then - I love how the agent said-she’s booked through October- maybe we will give her one day off in November- so Cindy was just go go go! Non stop!
Back when I was a young teenager I use to want so bad to be a model and like these girls! But knowing what I know now about this industry and what these women had to go through to get to the top, or do drugs to stay thin, I am no longer envious of them! A few of the models who did speak up about the predators and how their careers would be threatened if they didn’t sleep with the older men and how they’d be passed around (as young as 14-16) to get the best jobs or covers on magazines were black listed, jobs dried and the one model, even by her family told everyone she was suffering from mental issues, depression, and exhaustion. And she dropped off and never seen her again. (Karen Mulder.) How anybody could still want this for themselves or their daughters seriously mind boggles me!
Thank you for uploading this. It´s incredibly important and near enough proof footage! I´m watching this after Cindy´s son has just passed away exactly a week ago 😔. It´s heartbreaking to see the girls being SO excited, with stars in their eyes, thinking they´re going to absolutely change the lives of their entire family when going to Paris. I was worried watching the Barbara girl entering the room of that French accent guy. She had the complete look of a child/teen wanting to just please the authority in the room, and that older woman let her through the door like a truly unbothered enabler. But seeing her return back home after only 48hrs in Paris, made me realise how lucky she was, but probably not realising it. All she wanted to do, was to improve the life of her and her mother.
It´s really scary to realise, these girls had no idea that the predators were at EVERY LEVEL OF STAFF they´d have to go through. From the booker women, who are there to hunt and find vulnerable, insecure and hopeful young girls for the agency (ruled by predatorial men). To the agents, the "helpers" who teach and groom the young models and take them to clubs where rich men are waiting, to the photographers and the editors and agency owners. Eileen Ford herself, gave me the creeps. As did the short, fat woman who said that she´s constantly eyeing up girls, even on the beach. These women are CRUCIAL to the system, because the girls and their parents assume that their children are safe with women, and women know how to assure each other. It´s just incredibly planned and insidious!
And please don´t forget: Epstein used to be BACKSTAGE himself. Not in the audience, not at the agency, but actually backstage where the girls would take off everything between outfit changes. The wealthiest of men, including actors and musicians, WERE ALLOWED to roam backstage like shopping for the next victim. Sure, some women, like Evangelista, allied themselves with the top predator to gain a sort of immunity and rise to the top, but...they too were so broken, that they just decided to turn their trauma and cope into "I´m already ruined. Better make the best of this cesspool and get my money to be set for life". At least, that´s my theory. That´s what they call "Learning the game".
28:06 Milla Jovovich, age 12, says she wants to be an actress. And, if she has time, an Egyptologist. Decades later she would play the iconic lead character in the Egyptology-heavy cinematic masterpiece The Fifth Element.
