Today we received news that we prayed would never come.
After my PET scan and oncology appointments, it appears the cancer I fought and survived 10 years ago has returned. The doctors found metabolically active regions within an 8.3 cm retroperitoneal mass, and surgery is not currently an option because it is wrapped around a major vein near my spine. We are now working with my oncology team to determine the next course of treatment.
This video is an honest update on where we stand, what we learned today, and what the road ahead may look like for our family.

Heavenly father please be with Rex and his whole family. In Christ's name we trust amen.
My goal is to carefully evaluate every reasonable option using the best available evidence and the guidance of those experienced with this specific type of cancer. Like anyone, I would prefer the treatment path that offers the greatest benefit with the least pain, risk, and long-term damage.
Please also understand that receiving hundreds of well-intentioned recommendations for different alternative treatments, many of which directly contradict one another, can become overwhelming for our family and make an already time-sensitive process even more difficult to navigate. We ask for your patience as we carefully work through this with our medical team.
