What’s Eating Your Yarn? Moths, Carpet Beetles & How to Stop Them

In this episode, I’m taking a closer look at one of the least charming parts of knitting: moths and carpet beetles.

We’ll talk about how these pests can damage yarn, how to spot the warning signs, and what you can do to protect your stash. But rather than just repeating the usual advice, I also tested several of the commonly recommended methods myself to see how practical they really are.

I’ll walk you through the experiments, what we tried, what worked, what was less convincing, and what I would actually do if I discovered a pest problem in my own yarn. We’ll also talk about prevention, storage, and how to deal with affected yarn without immediately declaring the entire stash a crime scene.

If you have wool, alpaca, cashmere, or other animal fibers in your stash, this is one episode worth watching before you ever need it.

Thanks for watching and spending some time with me! I’m Beth, and on Mixed Bag of Knittin I talk about knitting, yarn, patterns, fiber adventures, travel, shops, makers, and all the strange little things knitters end up needing to know.
