You guys are truly amazing hmong leaders who thinking about hmong future for all os us not one. We are truly proud to be Hmong this world us no one else spelling except us who are truly original. Please unit together no matter you are green, white, blue, black that is only the colors of our clothes customer nothing to do with our nation so stop divide... We all one Hmong
Brother, Hmong and Mong refer to the same people. The “H” in Hmong is not pronounced as a separate English “H” sound. The different spellings are connected to our White Hmong (Hmoob) and Green Mong (Moob) linguistic traditions.
To avoid this type of disagreement, I believe the wording should have been inclusive from the beginning by using “Hmong or Mong” rather than choosing one term over the other. That would recognize and respect both communities and make it clear that neither group is being excluded.
At the end of the day, we are one people with a shared history, culture, and future. Whether someone identifies with the spelling Hmong or Mong should not become something that divides us.
As leaders, we should ask ourselves: How can we call ourselves leaders if we cannot work through differences between White Hmong and Green Mong? Leadership is not about proving which side is right. It is about listening, understanding different perspectives, finding common ground, and bringing people together.
Our responsibility as leaders should be to reduce division, not create more of it. We should respect both Hmong and Mong identities and work together to resolve issues that affect our entire community. If something as simple as inclusive wording can prevent unnecessary conflict, then we should be willing to make that change.
We may use different spellings and speak different dialects, but we are one people. Our differences should be respected, while our shared identity should bring us together.
Kuv yog ib tus neeg kawm ntawv tag qib siab, Doctoral level/true scholar. Kuv zoo siab nej cov muab sij hawm los sib qhia. Dr. Soua, please attempt to unify the Hmong people/organizations. I know it is very difficult but I think you should attempt to do so. It seems that Hmong really don't have a real organization.
