As you get older you realize that your parents are not these paragons of what is just and right, they can be and are: stupid, assholes, selfish, mean, manipulative, etc. Just like every other adult.

Another thing I learned is the time to learn a new language is when you're still in single-digit age, even better is when you're learning to talk, read and write. Once you get into double-digit age it gets exponentially harder and once you're over your twenties it's almost impossible unless you can move and live in the country of that language for several decades. If you want your kids to have the most job options once they reach adulthood, you REALLY need to get them learning more than their native language as SOON as possible - you'd be surprised how many more jobs you can get if you're bi or multi-lingual, even in your own country nevermind being able to move to other countries to work.

One thing I realised as I got older, is that my parents were right about the fact I'd regret slouching so much and that my back would be permanently damaged by it. I've had to go through physical therapy to try and ease the constant pain I have, especially in my lower back. The other thing I realised as I got older is virtually everyone gets "stuck in their ways" at some point in life, and that it happens way earlier than you expect. For me it happened around the age of 27. Same thing with struggling to keep up with technology, I haven't been able to keep up with all the new apps people use these days and even computers which I used to be really into when I was younger I'm now at least 10 years out of date with. I've even started using phrases like "back in my day" and I'm only 42 cos I just don't understand the younger generation and it's frustrating - especially seeing all the new slang they use and having to cope with words I thought I knew the meanings of now suddenly having completely opposite meanings or meaning something completely unrelated (a big one is the use of the word "hustle" to be something positive when for me it still means to defraud or swindle people or gain money through illicit or forceful means).

I am a firm believer that if you can learn and do things the old ways, when you dont have "technology" around, you can still get the job done the old way.
