Good afternoon, everyone. A big thanks to everyone watching. I hope you all enjoy it!

Ah there's nothing quite like watching a true crime show about a serial killer nurse literally less than 24 hours right before I have a major surgery. Edit: Surgery went well I am still lethargic and loopy, my nurses are great so I will not end up on a future episode of CC. Thanks for all the well wishes folks!

I work in aged care. Dementia takes bits and pieces away from you until your body is there but the person you love has gone. It’s watching as both the physical and mental capabilities start to fade hand in hand. That’s the hardest thing for me to see with my residents. Especially when they physically start to go quicker than mentally. Like I have a beautiful lady, sweetest woman I’ve ever met.  She doesn’t know who she is but she’s fully convinced the staff are her kids and extended family. The dementia has taken away her ability to walk and she gets so upset because she just wants to be able to get up and help do the dishes or tidy up. So I always make sure I have some little tasks she can help me with in her chair.
Dementia is so very cruel.

Simon's blindness to what the L is LGBT stands for is 100% on brand!

Simon trying to say “saskatchewan” was unexpected funny for this Canadian 😂😂 I love when the whistler-verse touches Canadian things because seeing Simon’s thoughts on Canada and our stuff makes my day!

Simon has a point in the beginning. My father was an abusive alcoholic, and my bullies became mafia figures and were convicted of money laundering.  I cooked dinner for myself every night starting at age 12. My friends pointed out to me how bad my mom was, cuz I didn't see it. I am fine, doing well as an adult, raised in the same time frame. There is no excuse or rationale for harming people.

Simon calling her parent's treatment of her as "the past was the worse" is so innocent it happens all the time and sometimes way worse treatment

The fact Simon actively tries to learn when he messes up a sensitive topic is why I could never be angry at him, even when he said something kinda insensitive I’d been affected by. The dude knows he doesn’t know everything and adjusts to new info accordingly. Brilliant to see!

Borderline personality disorder is actually one that does respond well to behavioral therapy if the person is committed to implementing the strategies the therapist gives them... and as long as it's not misdiagnosed as bipolar disorder. Borderline personality disorder is one that does not respond well to medication because it's not really imbalances in hormones or neurotransmitters. It's unclear what the cause is, but it seems to have a high correlation with feeling unsupported and abandoned at an early age without being given the tools to regulate those emotions. The lifelong impulsiveness to create attention or abnormally quick and close relationships to seek security while being reluctant to trust that relationship creates a lot of fear and emotional pain that translates into physical pain. The brain circuits for those pathways are strengthened with each time they do those behaviors, so it takes real dedicated and consistent work to reroute to healthier brain functions. Therapists that specialize in BPD can help them recognize the unhealthy behaviors and help them find ways to do healthy behaviors, but it's a lifelong requirement to be conscientious about checking themselves against backsliding into the unhealthy ones again.

Edit: I got some great feedback below, specifically about classifying some behaviors as attention seeking or designed to create attention. I used that as a bit of shorthand, but it definitely gives the impression for the motives. A lot of the time, those behaviors get written off and judged as "just wanting attention", but the reality is that the person is feeling fear or abandonment, feeling unanchored in the world, and is seeking reassurance and validation from the people important to them. That may come out in an unhealthy way, and it's easy to judge people as being superficial or a "drama queen" when they happen, but when we understand that it's a cry for help, it can be easier to try to help and forgive if needed. Prejudging motives can make situations worse, and I hope my clarification makes sense.

I heard that while male bullies tend to go for careers like law enforcement, female bullies would tend to go for something where they're seen as kind and nurturing, like nursing, to make it seem like they've reformed, but are also able to access people who can't fight back. They like the sense of power they have over their patients.

As a card carrying lesbian: both gay and lesbian are both perfectly fine to use!! Some people will use one more than the other for themselves but most use the two interchangeably, and neither would offend anyone. “Gay” is also often used casually as an umbrella term for LGBT+ people (minus the T since that’s about gender and not sexuality) of many identities, and they’ll use the more specific term that applies to them when discussing their sexuality specifically or whatever.

14:02 Hi! I have BPD, consulting a psychologist do help a lot! Medication does too. We all have our ways to handle it. In my case, you couldn’t tell anymore. I have been on medication for 10 years, I don’t need therapy anymore and found that going to the gym and training or going for a hike helped me a lot

Cases like this are precisely why I quit immediately when I found out that a job I was hired to was both sloppy with their narcotics records (!) and lazy about disciplining their medication technicians for repeated errors. When you walk onto a job and hear "yeah, __ forgets to logs stuff in the narcotics book all the time" from the boss and find out that NO disciplinary action has been taken for months if not years... YOU RUN. Medication technician isn't a licensed position; they're administering under a nurse's supervision/license, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if one or several of the MTs were pinching drugs and i didn't want to be there when shit hit the fan.

Here in Canada, if someone just says "hockey", they almost certainly mean ice hockey. If we're referring to hockey played on another surface, that has to be specified. Ice is the default here.

I was part of the province investigation on the nurse and had to give deposition in the public inquiry.  This can and will happen again. It made me leave nursing after 15 years in the field.

honestly, if I ever got dementia, I would hope someone would just put me down, especially if I would live years with it. It's hell on earth, my greatest fear. Utterly terrifying thinking about and living.

Simon always nails it when criminals  justify how messed up they should be (due to childhood  "psychological trauma") while, on the contrary, they only underwent the same thing as a multitude of other kids.

Pretty sure there are a lot of people who say the "mean girls" in high school all gravitate to nursing. Which is terrifying since the profession is supposed to be focused on helping people.

She was only caught because she confessed.
I am willing to bet there are more out there who haven't confessed.
