Dear Tom and Dominic, this is a note from your favorite French listener (Friend of the Podcast 🙂) who is laying a challenge at your feet: listening to you two Brits, it sounds like the Hundred Year War was a series of victories across the board by the bright, Master strategists British over a horde of bumbling French buffoons... I listened to your podcasts of the Battle of Agincourt and I fell in a deep depression over the inadequacy of the French, and yet looking at all 62 battles that occur during the 100 year war, it shows a different story especially near the end . I think it is high time to make your French producer feel better and speak of say, the battles of Roosebeke, Baugé, Patay or the siege of Compiegne where the British showed very poor behavior and captured a poor French Woman : Joan of Arc... the glove has been thrown at your feet. And on this bombshell, I do greatly appreciate your talent and virtuosity.

I love the content you guys put out. Absolutely crazy these videos don't get more views, likes and comments.

Guys you are simply the best! I've stayed up all night listening to your podcasts on Trafalgar. Simply brilliant. Now in the early morning I'm again hooked on your explanation of the 100 years war. But, as an American I must object ( in a friendly hands across the sea kinda way.) in American football you do NOT just run into each other. It's much more complicated and well planned , strategically than just that. It can take years to understand and comprehend the plays behind it all. No disrespect mind you. Once again you two are the best thing happening on the Internet. Cheers from America. Blessings.

I'm sorry to tell to Tom that Champagne the sparkling wine we know today did'nt exist at this time . For this you must wait the 17 th century . But it is true that wine was already cultivated in the Marne valley during this period . Wine in middle age is often made near rivers, because it's a pounderous good and hard to transport except by barges .

Tom's Tuchman quotes are reminding me to read "A Distant Mirror" again.
The content is fascinating, and her prose are works of art.

“A Distant Mirror” is my favorite book.Tuchman compared the 1970’s to the 14th century. Her recounting of the Black Death will make you long for any vaccine available to you and your children.

How could they not mention the Accursed Kings series by Maurice Druon?! Directly inspired A Song of Ice and Fire and covers this entire period in French and English history.

Superb as always!

thanks for making clear that it was a horrible time for the french populace. the french good king  jean? made a memorable statement damning the english for their crimes, which bernard cornwell quoted in his trilogy on the war

Apparently John Wayne was a big fan of the "Sir Nigel" stories by Arthur Conan Doyle.

28:40 calling the red-hot poker the "papel back channel" .....that is diabolical

From across the pond, you guys make great history content!  BTW, Dominic, I believe there was an English king for a short time named Louis IIRC.

You men both do such a wonderful job with EVERY single episode!!!!  Thank you for all your work.  May I ask your producers(?), if they are the correct people to ask, could they simply how one can get a list of all the episodes after one has become a member.  I'm 71 and not good with technology, but would love to listen to so many of your episodes.  Also, can they be compiled chronologically(the time period of the episode subject)?  Thank you so much for your time and attention.

The English kings descend from the Angevin Anjou dynasty of Henry II
Son of Geoffrey Plantagenet
Which means land adjoining Normandy (inherited already from William the Conqueror)
Anjou, Maine etc

As well as giant Aquitaine in southwest France

So they consider themselves great French lords who rule almost as monarchs anyway

Have you done any of the war of the roses?

Mortimer and Isabella both should’ve had the same manner of death as Edward II…eye for an eye 😎

Isabella was devoted to Edward II from age 12 to age 30ish
Through various lovers affairs on his part
They have 4 to 5 children together
Until Edward became obsessed with Hugh Despenser and alienated Isabella

20 years relationship is quite sometime

But it is her reactionto being discarded that is usually advertised widely

Can you make some episodes about the history of coronations before the crowing if Charles III?

31:20 edward iii and the boys stage a coup

I would like to see Davos rich people compete in jousting
