I just finished my playthrough of Portal 2 and found out the Half-Life series is in the same universe as the Portal games. I've never played these, but after several recommendations and seeing the crazy good review scores on Steam, I have decided to give this a go!

I hope you'll stick around and consider subscribing to the channel as I explore the world of Half-Life.

Thanks for watching,
Benjamight

Yes, looks outdated... but for 1998 it was very good. Some tips: You default to running. Hold SHIFT to walk, helps in some places. You can interact with lots of things, but most importantly with the guards and the engineers. Guards will accompany you for some distance if you want like personal bodyguards. Also, in case you don't figure it out, if you go sit in front of the white suit guys for a few seconds they'll give you a shot with medicine if you're hurt. Best advice I can give is don't rush, pay attention to what happens around you, listen what they're saying etc etc...
Glad you're starting with this game and I hope you'll keep going with HL2 and the episodes. IMHO they're worth it.

This game is among the greatest, arguably the biggest influence on story-driven shooters for its time, an absolute gem.

One thing you might be annoyed by throughout the whole Half-Life series, are ladders.
I don't think pressing E on the ladder works in the first game, but in Half-Life 2 it does and it will make it a lot easier.

got a good laugh at "wonder how many features carried over from portal into this game" xD

I'm sure you know by now but hl1 came out almost an entire decade before the first portal game.

I think Half life was the first "big release" that o bought with my own Pocket money! I was so hooked by it and the sequel back then.
It's great to see it after so many years played by someone who has no nostalgia attached to it!

Lmao i always love seeing newcomers to half life and the sheer jarr of just being thrown into the chaos. Half life is arguably one of the greatest titles of ALL TIME. It literally revolutionized shooters and gaming in general. Steam wouldn't even have existed without it.

Just found your channel from Reddit, eager to binge your entire series!

Long jump looks like it's supposed to be similar to how super mario long jumps, by crouching right before jumping. I had forgotten it existed in the game, I think it's only used when you get to Xen at the very end.
